Young hens (?) making loud strange noises

They're just walking around crabbing, best way I could describe it.
I call it 'grousing'...and yes it's prelude to laying in this case.
It may continue for more than a few weeks, or not.

Hope they learn not to trample all over them.
Sometimes new layers have thin or softshells, easy to break in the nest.
Ling the nest box with a piece of vinyl of a feed bag or something can make cleaning that mess up fast and relatively easy. You can lift the whole thing out and won't have to scrub egg stink off the nest box itself.

Update: I got the "egg song!" LMAO! It was so obvious.

I went outside, the hampy was singing up a happy storm (wish I recorded it), opened up the box, and voila!!! First yegg! Good job, Fog! (We thought she was going to be a leghorn, an original name I know.)

Now let's get those RRI's rocking and rolling! 🤠😂

Thanks y'all,

YoGuy

Oh boy, lol. If mine do that indefinitely they might go from being layers to broilers!

I'm kidding!!!! Lol
I have a few that are just “talkers” like that, and one in particular right now...a young one who goes on and on...and on. Some grow out of it, some don’t. Each have their own personality.

Glad that got figured out.😀 Both of my Australorps make similar sounds. A visitor thought they were angry but it’s just their sound. They’re at the top of pecking order so not sure if that has anything to do with it, like sounding authoritative 😅
