We have 10 week old Golden Comets & 11 week old Barred Rock. We have been feeding them medicated chick food since we got at 1 & 2 weeks old. Just read at this point we should be feeding them growing food. Just bought a 50 lb bag. Will they be ok? I thought you went from chic to egg laying food.

I’d think they’ll be fine but i’m more knowledgeable on ducks

it wont matter .. i usually raise up a small batch of chicks and i'll keep feeding them starter until the bag is done, for 4-5 chicks usually theyre about done with it by 5 weeks if memory serves me, but at that point you can mix in other things, scratch, layers ration etc .. i'd avoid pellets until theyre almost full size though, i have had chicks choke and die on me a couple of times from giving pellets too soon ...

Your plan sounds good. You don't ever have to switch to layer if you don't want, but if you do plan on it, best to wait until at least they're as old as directions indicate on the bag, or until some of them start laying.
