Your 2024 Garden

We can use some rain but it is no longer urgent with the cooling we are getting. No more temps above 89° forecast for this year. 70's to mid 80's mostly with night time temps dropping into the mid to low 60's. I need to go out and evaluate the chances of the tomatoes planted for a fall crop to see if they will possibly make a crop after the day or two of triple digits and a lot of upper 90's with scalding sunshine. They just didn't grow like the spring planting did. At least I started the plants and didn't pay the premium price like the spring plants cost. I'm not planting the greens I wanted to because it is more important to take care of my body and I will not make more work for my wife now. I'm going to talk to my friend at the neighboring county's farmers market and see if we can buy in bulk greens we would like to freeze ourselves. We are slowly shifting from annuals to perennials that are not as demanding on us. I've got 7 Muscadine grapes coming in to plant as a start on a small vineyard. They will be planted in November.

Peas!

How do you process greens for freezing? I have lots of chard, and have never frozen any before.
What Ma just told me is that she blanches just long enough to wilt them good and then takes them from the boiling water and puts them in icy cold water for a quick chill. Drains and packs into freezer bags.
