Your Feed Bill?

I'm feeding 25 chickens and they go through 100 pounds every 10 days and there is very little waste. Once the weather gets warmer here I'm going to try free ranging them which scares me as there are too many daytime predators, but the feed bill is becoming unaffordable.

I have 21 layers right now, though next month that number will double with the addition of several turkeys. as of right now I buy 2 - 50lb sacks of layer per month which cost me about 30 bucks per month. My hens lay 20 to 21 eggs per day, I got one that doesn't lay everyday, and I sell most of the eggs so the money I get from eggs goes into feed and bedding etc... by the time I am done buying all their stuff I have about 20 or 30 left over from the egg sales. In the summer when I can let them eat away in the fields those 2 bags I buy can last me about 2 months or a bit more.

7 chickens, 3 ducklings...1 bag of food every 4-5 weeks $12. they free range a lot too.
Reading this thread is sure a good way to not be tempted by the cuties at TSC! I like my wee little backyard farm!

OOH...

3 bags of feed a week-150lbs 2 layer 1 starter/grower

layer 13.50$ a bag
starter/grower 17.50$ a bag=44.50$ a week
50+ layers and breeders
20+ chicks
20+ teenagers
3 calls
3 large ducks
they free range all Spring-Summer-and Fall but the feed costs don't get smaller as I have birds hatching all year-
2-4 brooders with lights and heated water pans in 6 pens

now Im getting depressed thinking about all of it LOL

I have 3 laying hens, they go through a bag about every two months at $16 a bag. So, about $8 a month. Plus treats. They do get a fair amount of other things to... Like bread that's starting to go stail, various leftovers... Whatever is around that I know no one else is going to finish.
