Your own personal touch, what did you use?

I have to say.. chicken people sure have one heck of a creative streak!!!! so many different styles and looks. They are all amazingly beautiful. keep 'em coming. to some people they may only be chickens, but man are these chickens ever living in some castles!!!

I converted an old 8x12 tool/garden shed into a coop and it was dark and dreary inside. Nothing but mismatched shelves all over and huge nails to hang stuff. No vents, no windows. So after ripping out dozens of nails, taking a bunch of shelves out (I left 2 sections of 8 inch wide shelves approx 7 feet across) on one side, too high to be of much interest for the chickens and lower than their chosen roost. I put a3 windows and a few vents in but also painted the entire coop inside except the floor......I mixed small cans with leftover white/yellow and beige paint and have about 5 different 'pastel' colors that I used for different section of ceiling, walls, shelves, roosts. Makes it much nicer to look at, easier to clean and bright. As tons of dust accumulate I have 'limited' the decorations to some metal and ceramic chicken and rooster figurines, metal chicken signs and a couple of wooden plaques . The plaques are on hooks, easy to dust of or rinse off when I clean the coop, the other stuff sits on the shelves along with an assortment of mason jars filled with BOSS, cracked wheat, raisins. All easy to rinse off or wipe off. I don't like to clean more than I have too but I don't mind the items in the coop. I enjoy my 'kitsch' and the displayed jars and it makes me feel good to spend time in the coop. No pics, sorry, but I'd say - go for it. Paint goes a long way, containers can be useful and decorative (I even like my 3 metal cans in different sizes for feed, grit and oyster shell grouped in one corner). It does not matter to the chickens, I'm sure except that a brighter coop seems more desirable than a dark one. I do have limited amount of 'stuff' on the floor though to have more space for the girls, move around easier and most of all be able to clean old bedding out of the coop easier. The girls have their nestboxes a bit raised, several roost at different levels and a hanging feeder as well as waterer off the ground. They seem comfy enough. So I hope you will have fun fixing your coop up!! Post pics when you are done

We did a big Rooster shaped puzzle and glued it together and hung it in the Cochin Coop with a piece of plexiglass over it. Chickens appreciate art too!
