Hey! I am 77 years old, and have never ever really liked eggs, although I have ate a lot of them (only in cooking, and scrambled well done), but much more of this and I may swear off of them.
We eat them. Blood does not bother me. There is nothing inherently toxic or poisonous about a drop of chicken blood. If we are serving a fried egg to someone else, I would scoop off the bloodspot- to make it look nicer. We do remove the meat spots when noticed. For some reason, those gross me out more than the blood spot. We see both occasionally. It supposedly happens more with hens just coming into lay, or going out of lay. They are removed in commercial production as the average consumer wants everything to look alike and to be perfect. No blemishes. LOTS of good food is discarded due to this.

We have always discarded eggs with blood spots, and they are candled to keep them from commercial production. Is this just for the squemish? what about eating the eggs with blood spots? steaks are full of blood. Does anyone eat eggs with blood spots in them?
I am more bothered by how much my chickens seem to like the taste of chicken, that seems like much more of a conflict of interest! I refuse to feed them cooked chicken scraps because that just grosses me out.
Regarding blood spots, there is nothing harmful in eating them but I scoop them out because I dont like the look.

Sorry if we grossed you out! Really, its just basic biology stuff. Chickens eggs are an excellent source of nutrition! I love them, but I love duck eggs even more. YUM!

I just imagine there is much about most of what we eat and love that would gross us out if we knew everything there was to know about it.
