Add in my prayers and good thoughts for Lexi and Olivia too Cyn!
I fully understand the "hunker down survival mode" when it comes to our girls. Someday, when you have more time, remind me to send you pictures of the winter of 08-09. *shudder* When we got well over 5 feet of snow in the space of just 3 short weeks!
As well as temps down around the OMG that's too cold mark! (-5 most nights)
It's been real cold here too for the last few days. Daytime high around 25 and nights down to about 10 or so...not as bad as we've ever seen it, but certainly enough to get our own "survival mode" in high gear!
And because it's been sooooo c-c-c-c-c-cold!, I've started giving the girls a mash of heated up whole kernel corn mixed into warm oatmeal. That is the first time I've ever done that. I had no idea how the girls were going to take to it.....
I needn't have worried my ugly little head over it....
They freaking DEVOURED it!
Yup! The raptors in them came out in full force over that! I don't know which they enjoyed more...the change in food offering, or the fact that it was nice and warm!
Either way, a respectable sized bowl of it was gone in about a minute and a half!
They have you wonderful ladies to thank for this! (Cyn & Cetawin mostly) Were it not for your inspirational posts and pictures of the goodies you offer your chickens, I might not have ever thought to try it on my girls. Next week....YOGURT!!!
Thanks for the great ideas on how to warm up chilled chickens on wickedly cold days!
