Zane and Shadow...Roommates? (Cute Pic, post #79)

Smoky/Suede babies?!?
love.gif
FUN!!! I will PM you!! I know what you mean about Dusty. My little Muscovy duck is on 10 eggs right now. Not exactly MY plan for her, but there was noooo arguing with her (at least not an argument I was ever going to win!!). I am trying to not be in a rush for eggs or babies, so whenever it is convenient for your girls...

I will be waiting patiently....

Well, I'll still keep everything crossed for Olivia. Too bad draining her wouldn't do the trick. I know how hard it must be for you Cyn to have to content yourself with such a passive treatment for her when you'd really like to be able to open her up and solve the problem with a hands on approach!

I know it would drive me up the wall, and I don't have nearly the knowledge or courage you do in treating sick chickens.

On the matter of Suede's offspring: If I can get my butt and my bator in gear, I'd love to have some of his progeny!

How much time do I have to get this whole thing figured out? Weeks? Months? Years?
hu.gif
Hopefully years...knowing me, it might take me that long to get up the confidence to try really special eggs!!

Serrin those "special" eggs were nearly the death of me...hahahaha I was a raving lunatic, wench, snotrag and every other adjective you can imagine. I roared at anyone who got within a foot of the "Suede eggs"

Let's just put it this way...it is 24 days of my life that DH never wants to re-live.

24 days? Wait! I thought incubation was only 21...you better explain the extra 3 days missy!

Gotta get a hygrometer! Gotta get a hygrometer! Gotta get a hygrometer!!! Ya know, there is a definite DIS-advantage to living so bloomin' far out in the country! Even the nearest Wal-Mart is a 45 minute drive away!

I've heard rumor that they have hygrometers!

Oh goodness...you did not pay attention to the drama some 24 + weeks ago. Well, Cyn sent the eggs, wrapped fabulously. They took an extra day getting here and Friday afternoon late in the day I was on the warpath looking for my eggs. I went to the post office and yelled at them sounding like a shrew "WHERE THE HE** ARE MY EGGS WOMAN?"... then I went in search of the postal carrier from HE**. This man will deliver a letter to the house but a package get s a little slip in the box...unless you are the hot single lady down the road...he does car to door delivery then. Soooooooooo anywho...I find the idiot and beep at him...wave etc etc and he will not stop for jack. It is pushing 4 pm on a Friday and my precious eggs are in the vehicle with this idiot. I sped up, cut him off, forced him off the side of the road and went running to his door like a maniac yelling WHERE THE HE** ARE MY EGGS? I WANT THEM NOW! He was freaking out and trying to crawl into the other side of the vehicle.

Meanwhile I am yelling at him about insensitve, lazy, stupid he is....he sees the markings and labels all over the box, knows it is important but is too danged lazy to get out and bring them to me. He left a slip in my box. After fearing for his life at the hands of a ticked off woman driving a big van...he hands em over. I took them, went home and ordered an incubator for express delivery on Monday.

So, they rest for several hours and I take them to Ms Broody in the coop...my Salmon Faverolle. She pushes them away. I roll them near her...she pushes them away....I ease them under her with the 4 eggs she has stolen from the other girls...she methodically picked out Cyn's eggs and rolled them away. I tried Friday and several times on Saturday...nope she would not take them. So, they sat in the crate with the sign on them until Monday evening. The bator arrived, in they went and then I was a shrew for 21 days until hatch. Of the dozen Cyn sent me I got my 4 beautiful babies...and I am surprised I got that many with what the eggs went through.

So yeah, I have a DH who fears me incubating again....a mailman that runs from me if he sees me in town but I have Thor Athena Cannonball and Fattie from Cyn's flock.

I can so completely picture this whole scene! And we've never met face to face. But, I've got the feeling that we're sisters under the skin you and I Cetawin. Cuz, yeah, I think I would have done the same thing.

But I'm pretty sure Eric (my mailman) would never do something like this to me. You see, I bribe him twice yearly. A very nice basket of goodies from the garden and the girls in the summer, and a nice gift basket of winter treats around Christmas time. No, Eric would never let me down. He likes his twice yearly baskets and will do nothing to provoke me! *insert evil grin here*

24 weeks ago? Hmmm...that must have been right before I joined BYC. Darn! I miss all the fun!

LOL I can laugh about it now but man was I ticked off then...even DH and Daughter stayed out of my way. BTW...in the "Breeds Genetics and Showing" forum check out page 240 of the "Show Me Your Delawares" thread....you can see pics of my 4 babies from this morning.

She's a softie who can be tough when the occasion calls for it, lemme tell ya!

Well, since Suede was mentioned, sadly, not one of Dusty's six eggs in my bator is developing.

Either his libido is down or his fertility is down or he isn't making good contact due to his size or the girls' saddles. Hard to say. Will have to wait for spring to see if things change, maybe test them again by giving a broody some Orps eggs.
