Zebra...

Didn't this forum already have a thread talking someone out of getting a zebra? But if I recall, the woman in the mentioned thread had no experience with them.

Good luck! Wishing you success and happiness.

(Are there any next of kin that can update for you here on BYC?)

Just a question! No negativity intended.

I think I remember someone posting about the zebras they own, a post about a surprise zebra foal with lots of lovely photos of the foal & its dam & sire? I don't think they rode theirs, but they also didn't mention any bad temper or disposition with them.

And (don't laugh) but what about that movie Racing Stripes? Were those real zebras used in the movie or a white pony in makeup? That animal was handled a lot, compelled to do a lot of "acting", and was even hitched to a plow and ridden in many scenes.

Sorry, I was sleeping & then at work so I'm only replying now.
To all those who wish me good luck, thank you! To those who slam me, each to their own.
I believe that it is a much happier life to live in a nice grassy field with horses for company & as much food as he wants than to live in the desert with starvation, hunting, thirst & predators to deal with. He would never have a harem out there as the ratio of males to females is too high. I also see no difference to a mustang/brumby being taken out the wild. At least not to the animal (for training purposes, it will be harder with a zebra.)
I was going to just pm Spectrum but I thought it would be nice to see what everyone else had to say & that Spectrum would comment anyway.
What info & tips can you give me Spectrum? I'm not sure what species he will be but I'm hoping for Burchells as I have more experience with them.
