Anyone ever have a rooster that is realitivly quiet? Like not anymore loud then most hens are? Or is there a breed whos roosters seem to be quieter or a little "softer spoken" so to speak? Thanks in advance for any information!
Every morning before i go to work i let my chickens out, they have been out back since march or april, and every night i put them away. Today was no different...i left for work and all 5 jumped out of the coop, now they are no where to be found.

I have been doing research..looking for an automatic door, i havnt really found anything that jumped out at me yet, so i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I have electric at the coop. I'm in the US (pennsylvania)
I have been reading a lot about what to do and what not to do as far as washing or not...what temp. water, and so on.. I have had hens laying for about a month and really havnt had anything dirty on them that i thought needed to be removed. My question.. How fast will the bacteria be sucked...

I'm currently building my coop and was wondering what i need as far as where the birds will sleep. I have 6 RIR's. I'm assuming the nesting box is just for them to lay eggs? And they free range during the day..but should i put like a bar or piece of wood up for them to roost on at night?
When is a good time to move the chicks from the brooder to the coop? Is it a temp. thing? Or an age thing? What should i look for to help me figure out when the time is right?
