I just got 2 kittens from someone I didn't know and they came with horribly crusty, goopy eyes! I know they were born in a barn and were kind of wild..I just want to get rid of the problem before it gets worse! Any advice on a natural remedy??? I want it gone ASAP!
Thanks!
Looking for a flock of close-ready to lay pullets. I live an hour east of Pittsburgh (Johnstown-ish area) So something close-ish would be preferred.
I have absolutely no idea where else to look....so if anyone has any idea of where I should be looking please help me out!
Thank you!!!
Greetings! I have a question regarding how many lay boxes I should have in my coop.
So I have 22 chickens total, 2 flocks, 2 different ages.
When I first built my coop I was in a hurry to get my first batch in because they were growing so fast. I originally built 3 lay boxes and put in one...
I have 2 different ages of hens together in the same coop. The first batch just started laying about a month ago and the second batch should begin laying here in about a month- should I continue feeding them all grower/finisher feed or should I switch to layer feed?
I also have been giving...
I noticed yesterday that one of my girls is hopping around on one foot. It seems that she's able to use both but will occasionally stop using one. I picked her up to check the foot but there is nothing visibly wrong. My thought was to give her a few days to see if she was feeling better but I'm...
I just walked into my coop and found one of my chickens lying on its back dead. Its awful. It was a Red Sex Link- about 16 weeks old. All of my chickens have seemed completely 100% healthy since day 1. My RSL's just started laying about 2 weeks ago. I haven't switched them to layer feed yet...
I currently have a flock of 23- 11 (16 week old) RSLs and 12 (11 week old) BRs. I keep them in a spacious coop with an attached/ portable run. More recently a lot of them have been flying out of the run -its only a 3ft tall fence at this point- which really isn't a problem considering we have...
My first hen starting laying about 2 weeks ago and the rest are beginning to follow! It's so exciting to check the boxes for eggs everyday! Currently have 6 hens laying...waiting for the last 5 to start producing!
As a first time mom with my girls just beginning to lay I'm not sure if I'm just being paranoid or not. Of course it just looks like the coloring is different..but I want to make sure that it doesn't mean that there's a deficiency of some sort.
All input welcome!
Thanks:)
I just recently began thinking of owning a goat, mainly for milk and eventually meat. I've only read small amounts about goats and don't really know where to start. So I figured I'd post something here and see if I could get any advice!
Does anyone out there own goats?
What breeds? And how...
Got our first egg the other day! I was pleasantly surprised when I found it considering my girls (RSLs) are only a little over four months old. I think I can tell which hen laid it based off of her behavior. Since then she skipped a day- but for the past 4 days she's been leaving us an egg...
About 2 weeks ago I put my 4 week old Barred Rocks in the coop with my 11 week old Red Sex Links. As a worried helicopter mom I was concerned that it would go terribly wrong. I kept them completely separated with a fence in the coop and out in the run- so they could see and only kind of touch...
At what age should I switch my girls onto layer feed? I have 11 RSLs that are 13 weeks old now. The back of the bag recommends 18 weeks. I swear someone told me (not sure if this is correct or not though) that RSLs can lay as early as 16 weeks- is this right? And if so should I be switching...
I searched the internet for a "natural" solution for my slug problem. They've been feasting on my kale for the past couple of weeks.
I ended up cutting off the tops of plastic water bottles, cutting U's into them, digging them into the ground around my kale ground level and filling them with...
Walking into my coop there's feathers everywhere! I have 11, 13 week old RSLs. I'm assuming that its normal based on the fact that all of my girls seem super healthy.
Thoughts and comments please!
Thank you!

I put my 11 RSL's (12 weeks old) in the coop a few weeks ago and the transition went great. Recently some of them started using the lay boxes as their toilet.
When I built the perches and lay boxes I heard that by building the boxes higher than the perches you could prevent this from...
After reading so many forums and searching for info- I've decided that I'm putting my 4 week old BPR's in the coop this afternoon. They're beginning to smell in the house and are peeping so loud lately! I'd also like to get them acclimated to my others girls ASAP. The weathers been fluctuating...
At what point can you tell if you have a rooster?
I have 2 batches of chicks, got them sexed but I heard it's never 100%- 11 Red Sex Links that are 11 weeks old and 12 Barred Plymouth Rocks that are 3 weeks old.
What signs will tell me if one is a rooster and at what age?
Thanks!

I'm new to raising chickens- I started 11 weeks ago, purchasing a dozen Red Sex Link pullets. What a joy they have been! Very chill demeanor, friendly, not too skittish (around me anyways), they like to follow me around and come running to me whenever I greet them outside. Needless to say, I...
