Personally I've never seen many Barnevelder eggs go past the average brown lately. . . I think Barnevelder eggs in the US, at least what I've been seeing lately, are really, really sad in color. A hatchery Cuckoo Marans can do better. Yours are quite nice!

Quote: Honestly I think if someone called their birds just plain 'ol Black Coppers, they're still in the 90% likelyhood to be French. I personally would find it so tiring to call my Wheatens, Blue Wheatens, and Black Coppers "french" all the time. . . It's easy enough to see in photos that...

I've got Brahmas and Marans, neither have ever had leg problems, especially even for the fact that we live in a VERY wet, humid, and mucky climate.

Quote: oh. bummer. You mean roosters are all shooting blanks right now? Not mine. So far my Blue Wheaten seems to be fertile, a couple Araucanas are fertile, really the only thing that the seasons are affecting is the "mood." My Ameraucanas and a few Araucanas just aren't in the mood...

Nope, can't. When the girl laid it, it landed in some poo, so I had to (VERY carefully) wash it, and later found a small crack in it. I'm preserving it for my collection. ETA - The only Marans left of mine that has not laid an egg yet is a BC from Wynette and my best Wheaten pullet. . . If it...

Quote: If you're getting them from a hatchery it doesn't really matter, both lay an orangey type egg. If you're getting from a reputable breeder, go with Marans. They lay the darkest eggs. And speaking of dark, I found in the coop today a GORGEOUS, dark ruby red egg today, perfectly round...

I would guess a Red Jungle Fowl. . . But if he is, it proves all the more in that study that there's only one person in the US with true Red Junglefowl, because wow, that is a stilty, thin lookin' wild thang!

Again, big time and Are you at all considering selling some hatching eggs from that girl? Especially, if they're hatching eggs from an Olive Egger? Or a Black Copper male with the same darkness of egg?

Quote: Wheaten. Number one rule is about the Cinnamon Triangle. Number two is the pearl/pink shanks. Take a look at this Wheaten - Would you believe he is? Because he is indeed a Wheaten. Came out of Wheatens, has a cinnamon triangle, has pink shanks, just. . . A LOT of red.

Quote: Are you positive that's a BCM and not a single-combed Olive Egger cull laying that egg? My oldest Olive Egger is 7 weeks old. I'm pretty sure it's a Black Copper Marans. I got the pullet who lays them from Wynette, who also has a hen that does the same thing with her eggs on occasion.
