Yeah, pretty normal! I had one drake and four females; my Mallard lady rarely got love, and one of my Welsh Harlequin girls had a bare back neck! They do seem to pick favorites. If your ratio is off, I would definitely suggest adding more girls! ;) If you can't, you can also get rid of some...
Zeus! The little duckling that had a dime-sized pip at 11am, and was out by 3pm. He officially turned one day old today at 3! His birthday present was spending some time outside. Zeus is a Mallard/Welsh Harlequin mix.
Yay! My Mallard hen went broody again! (: She's currently sitting on 8 eggs, and I think she's ready to actually sit on them. She doesn't seem to be getting off as often as she was when she was laying the other 7 eggs. Does that make today day #1?
Well, Pyrrhos stopped sitting on them, and we weren't able to reach them. I think they just weren't fertile, or they didn't develop. I hope she triee again, though!
More Pyrrhos! The sneaky little devil is gone after breakfast, and back before dinner, lol. I'm not sure if she's flying out of the backyard, or if she just found a really good hiding place. I believe she's sitting on eggs.
And here's a wild Mallard drake!
I don't think ducks often perch like other birds, do they? Or maybe Mallards are different? I know Pyrrhos likes to hop on rocks, but I've never seen her really perch on anything.
Based on that, I'm *guessing* that it's a hen.
My Pyrrhos doesn't quack, either. She'll be...
... Holy crap. She's gonna be 21 weeks old on Saturday! Anyways, she just makes chirping noises, but I have yet to hear a loud quack from her. The ducks that were *supposed* to be quiet - the Welsh...
Lol yeah, I think Mallard drakes tend to be super amorous lol. Is it possible to get Peepers a, uh, 'friend' lol? If not, I doubt it'll matter as long as they're separated during mating season.
Pyrrhos! (:
There's a giant hole in the ground because we're finally continuing to work on the pond. It got wayyyyy too hot to be digging out there, so we had to take a break. We're going to have an aquaponics system to grow veggies for the family, that way we can spend the money on buying...
