My little silkie chick hatched during the night. Seems to be doing quite well even though mama got off during hatching and a trip to the bator. Looks to be a gray partridge chick.
Went out to the coop this afternoon to see 1 of my broody silkies off her 2 eggs just hanging around. Checked her eggs and 1 had a pip so I quickly brought into the house and into the bator after I made sure the pip was thru the membrane. She is a notoriously bad at being broody. She never has...
7 healthy babies (this is being incredibly optimistic). Ducklings did lots of shivering after hatch. Moved them to the brooder. Its warm in the brooder. Made sure Oscar(garbage duckling) had a drink. 1 has an issue staying on his feet(ends up on his back). 1 more pipped egg, pipped after I put...
I had quite the sunday! Last night I found my muscovy hen off her nest. She must have been off for quite some time. Eggs were cold. 2 ducklings had hatched but were dead. 1 duckling was dead and stuck half way out of the shell. It had a deformed/broken bill so I didnt open the shell just put it...
Peaked under my silkies today. My co brooders have at least 2 out. Didnt have my phone with me to take photos. I will try and get photos when I go back out.
Lost the youngest silkie yesterday and meat chickens. This heat is crazy. +35 yesterday. Baby button died this morning but there must have been something wrong. Mom and dad are looking after the other 4. Mom and dad are both wild colour but babies are 2 yellow, 1 wild and 1 wild with a white face.
Yes this year, my own eggs: 21 for 25 mixed chickens, 15 for 15 ducks, 7 for 9 muscovys, 22 for 24 chanteclers and bcm and 6 for 6 silkies in the bator.
I have not had luck even with eggs I have gone and picked up. This year I purchased 3 lots of eggs that were within 3 hours driving range: 6 for 32, 22 for 48 and 3 for 24. 8 chicks hatched but didnt make it. I think next year I will buy chicks if I need to. The 1 breed I wanted and I only had 1...
My final baby hatched in the bator overnight. Looks like this 1 may have a leg issue also. Baby #2 still cant walk on its feet. Flutters around on its hocks but manages to get to food and water.
I see egg shells in the button quail cage so I think there maybe baby buttons!
So my second chick has minor splay leg. So I did the bandaid fix and put him back in the bator. He is kinda laying on his side a bit. Is that normal or did i bandaid wrong?
#2 is out and loud. Looks to be a partridge also. Only 1 egg left in the bator. Last one of the season for the bator. Still have 3 silkie hens sitting on eggs though.
I agree. I hatched 22 EEs in May. I think I still have 21. I know 1 died a couple of weeks ago. They dont all look alike but they are never all in the same place and not moving at the same time. Some are very adventurous and in the yard and some never go out into the big world.
