    February 2023 hatch-a-long

I just opened the last egg. Well my husband did while I covered my eyes and cringed.🤦🏻‍♀️ I did bury her in the garden under our mist flower patch. It was a beautiful fully developed lavender chick that died on Day 14/15.😩 That was our last egg. Time to clean and store the bator. Overall it was...

I have one like this too. Scared to do an eggtopsy. I wonder If mine died when it got kicked around by the other chicks. Going to wait one more day on mine.

The one remaining egg has not pipped. Can't really see movement either. Ugh. Will give it a couple days. Three hatched yesterday and the one from the large egg is a funny looking chick. It was covered in bits of yolk so letting him dry off. Here are the other two that hatched. I was surprised...

I'm a newbie, but I wait 24 hours with an external pip. Sometimes you can see their little beak doing chewing motions so you know they are still absorbing the yolk.

    February 2023 hatch-a-long

Five of my mystery farm eggs have now hatched. I was worried about this hatch because I’m a newbie and this was the staggered hatch. They did fine! Incubated at 20-25% after lockdown 1 and the air cells caught up to where they should be. Two have dried (pictures below). Any guesses to what...

One baby just hatched, another is externally pipped and one internal on Day 19. I have no idea what these final batch chicks will be. They came from a huge open flock. The huge egg is still silent. I hope that it makes it okay. I'm dying to know what kind of chick will come out of that huge egg. 🙈

I’m so sorry. I have the same feeling over the one I assisted “Tiny.” She is small and shakes her head a lot. I tried feeding yolk and electrolytes for a few days. She seems off. Sadly, she has turned into a bully and pecks at the down and feathers of everyone else.

Put my last six eggs (mystery farm eggs) into lockdown. Today is day 18. This is a staggered hatch and I kept the humidity very low 25ish percent after the last hatch so the air cells could catch up. One egg is so large I’m wondering if it’s a duck egg. 😂 An EE poof ball hatchery chick (we...

Here's a pic of my last one to hatch. Her name is Tiny. She needed a full assist. Luckily, I made a safety hole before I realized she was malpositioned. She is very small and keeps trying to get under the tummy of the other chicks. Excuse her messy face, she just enjoyed some raw egg yolk. 😂

So the chick at the top of the pic is the one that needed a full assist FBCM. That baby got slathered with coconut oil and I'm still trying to gently clean it and crusty membrane off. Despite being unfluffed she still seems way smaller. Do you think I accidentally received a bantam egg somehow...

Yes it was! So thankful one made it! Now if only it would be a girl! Lololol. They are autosexing so hopefully I can figure that out soon.🤪

My boys named some of them already. ☺️ The French Black Copper Maran is still weak from hatch... will get her picture later on. Hopefully she pulls through. So curious how these barnyard mix colors will turn out. I have no idea. I assume yellow fluff turns into white feathers. Here's Lewis and...

7 of 9 eggs have now hatched. One FCM is malpositioned foot over head. I made a safety hole yesterday and widened to take a peek today. It's still absorbing the yolk. I'll assist again when it's finished. All other babies seem to be doing great. Will try to get pics today. The last egg... a...

They said it's just the yolk sac and should reabsorb. I have it resting in a little cup. Will recheck in a few hours. All the other babies are fine so far. Few more eggs to go still. Hopefully none hatch as dramatically as this one.😅

Thoughts? A shipped egg just hatched and has issues. Looks like an organ hanging out 😰 and there is a lot of yolk left behind. Anything I can do at this point to save her? I tried to ask in the main forum thread also.

What is squishy belly? Is it obvious? I have four hatched, two more with external pips. One has a big santa belly… wondering if that might be squishy belly. 😭 My two French Cooper Maran eggs have no pip. Hopefully they are alive. I can’t see anything in those eggs. 😅

This thread has made me even more excited to move to a rural area. We’re years away, but it’s in the works at least.🥴 Being able to hatch eggs, keep Roos and breed your own flock to get colors you like would be so enjoyable. Four external pips now. Three in the air cell. Yay! I was worried...

Another external pip in the right place this time. Whew! Although it broke a piece of shell off, she didn’t break all the way through the white membrane so I made a tiny hole in it.
