There has never been a reportable disease started by a poultry show and in 50 years of showing never brought anything home to my flock. I don't medicate, vaccinate, but I do practice great biosecurity. The PPBA show will be patrolled by California Poultry Health Inspectors. 5 of us. 99 percent...

I was at the Ventura show. It is a bit early for a lot of chickens, but has some very good breeders showing there. The PPBA show in Modesto next weekend will have 3500 birds, so three times what you saw in Ventura. It is the APA National meet. Walt

People just buy from whoever is calling themselves breeders these days and they end up disappointed, but those people are heavyweights......you did well buying from them. You must have done some research. You will be very happy. I have a lot of things going on, but I suppose you mean chicken...

I am shocked, but anyone can get bugs........but as you say, keep them to yourself. Stick tight fleas are pretty easy to see unless they are in egg form. I spray Adams flea and tick 14 day residual on anything that goes off my property. He must not have known for some reason.....but they are...

They are in Norcal too. I have had them here in Santa Rosa. (Sonoma county). A real breeder would never send out birds with any bugs. If they become established on your property you won't think they are easy to get rid of. Walt

Regarding the picture of the Silkie with no crest above. It is never a good idea to put bantam chickens in with large fowl......particularly ornamental breeds with crests. They can't see the other bird coming and can't compete in the daily testing of the pecking order. Sometimes it will work...

I have had NeNe's for several years. You need a Fish and Game permit to keep them and when they have babies, they will kill the Cotton Patch geese if they are in the same enclosure. They are fine with other birds if they don't start making a nest. These are not domesticated birds. You can get by...

I just picked up 20 fifty pound sacks of 20% protein pellets with weevils in it. It was free and the chickens loved it! Free is very good when you are using 100# of feed a day. They ate this feed much faster than the regular feed. lol. I have commercial brooders, but I usually just use a...

Well you seem to know that raising chickens is really pretty easy. Lots of people make chicken raising much more difficult than it really is. I feed everything here the same food including all the waterfowl. I don't medicate or vaccinate or feed supplements. The birds I keep here live on average...
