Silver Linings Chronicles!

Well my husband wanted to cuddle muscovy, so I got some pictures. Unfortunately it really doesn't show well up on her pink beak. You might be able to see those ripples.

I have seen something similar on one of my ducks. She is a Muscovy that is 2 years old. I got her from a breeder that free ranges with LGDs that look after them. She clearly had some minor injury to her beak at sometimes. I don't have any good pictures showing it.

Granted, I am assuming your new girl's beak actually feels normal otherwise.

Thank you for the photos! I hear that some Muscovy are great for cuddles. I can see what you mean. @Miss Lydia to answer your question from before, I'm not sure if it is damp. I am trying to handle her slowly as she was very spooked when we first got home. I may try to get better photos tomorrow when the rain stops. In the meantime I applied some poultry goo and it seems to possibly be helping.

It was my birthday on the 22nd, and I asked for more ducks (of course). Chick days are back at TSC and while I never anticipated owning Pekins, these two peeped their way into my basket somehow. Luckily one of the employees is familiar with me and agreed to vent check them, to make sure I got females.

My daughter wants to name one Poppy, and I'm not sure about the other.

It was sad here for awhile, because we had to put Pickles down (my little welshie). She had a respiratory fungal infection. We buried her on the corner of the property and put a duck statue over her grave. Probably one of the hardest things I've had to do.

Poppy and Petal are now Papi and Petal, unfortunately I don't want to keep another drake. There's a nice family who is driving an hour south to me on Friday to pick them up. They just lost their Pekin pair of 5 years, so I'm glad those two will live a happy life with them.

A nice woman on our neighborhood/community FB group saw my post asking for tomato seeds to plant in honor of Pickles, and offered me one of her Muscovy ducklings. We'll be taking the little blue girl. Pictured below, mama with the 4 ducklings and papa too.

We welcomed Lemon and Tangerine to the family last week, African geese.

And our final 2023 addition to the flock (laughing at the word final here because, flock math) came home yesterday. This is Cosmo & Wanda. They came from my very good friend's farm, where she breeds goats, turkeys, chickens, guinea fowl, peacocks, etc. She's not sure which pairing they came from, but she has Royal Palm hens/tom as well as Red Bourbon hens/tom.
