We are experiencing a drastic (in my opinion) reduction in eggs (like from 19/day to 1, 2 or 3 and this may be the answer to the dilemma.

It was concise, easy to understand and will be even easier to implement.

Preparing to incubate ourselves this reminder came to our mailbox right on time.

We are looking at the incubator that has 360 or some such in the name.

Thorough and informative. Not to mention just what I needed to read on several levels. Here my babes are 11 weeks, 5 weeks and 2 weeks. As far as I am concerned they ALL need to be out in coop. We have about another week left to get in some last minute supplies and finish that baby up.

I am only at the beginning and this article has me mentally cracking up AND thinking about my upcoming foray into chickening. You see for now they are brooding and begging to get out. COVID hit me a couple weeks back; hubby then got sick (neg. COVID supposedly) and coop building got put on hold. He states today will be a whole coop project day after worship. We won't mention how I have to get yet more, um, what's that stuff called, cattle fencing, chicken wire?? Whatever the think, galvanized stuff that goes all over/around the coop to keep predators out. Well, I need more, but have to wait until the third for pay day, then order and wait for delivery.

Long story short the bad boy should be done by Sept. 10. This article meanwhile is prepping me for my chicks free-ranging life ahead.

This article is the business. It really heightened this chicken neophyte's respect for the ladies. I am so new at this that culling hens strictly cause they are old had not occurred to me. Now I think it won't occur at all for the reason of age. Thank you very much.

My fave color was chosen for painting the structure. What eye-candy. I'd almost be willing to find a second job to be able to afford to build one of these.

Well, my daughter loves 'em and finds exquisite joy in telling and showing others about eating them . Let me think . . . with bar be que sauce or some such other. She is so funny. I'd try 'em though.

Beauty personified!

This article makes heapa buncha sense and I wish I could duplicate it. My babies are in my Ladie Lair; i.e., sewing studio room turned brooder inside a play pen for small animals. It has mesh on top and upper sides for them to see through. But through to what . . . junk in my sewing room. Ugghhh.

I need to figure out how to implement something of this article for them (and future) chicks. We are building their coop in stages so for now brooding in coop is not possible.


Due to the heat here we have put foil up on most of the windows including the one in their brooder room. Perhaps I should remove it and for much of the day have it open where they can see out. But they won't see people, simply grass and trees.


I dunno this sec; but I am going to come up with something to help them out.

This is uber helpful for a newbie like me. I definitely want to incorporate this (isn't it simply permaculture?) into our homesteading efforts.


I need to print this out and have it in my chickening notes. As simple as this is I am needing to read and reread because I get stuck at how to start this all out. I get confusted with the have the chickens IN the garden; don't have them in it. Use them to till and the "chickens will destroy your garden" rhetoric. I'm going to get it though because I read the ring of truth in it.
