I think it’s important that everyone who raises chicks is able to recognise the symptoms of coccidiosis. My chicks had it recently. Fortunately I realised straight away what it was and was able to begin treatment the same day. Sadly I lost one within hours but acting quickly I managed to save all the others who are now growing into strong, healthy birds.

This is one of my favourite articles on BYC. I have recommended it to others and linked to it so many times. Really stresses the importance of giving the chick chance to hatch on its own. Fantastic!

Thank you for writing this article. Due to roll-out best boxes I rarely get dirty eggs but one or two insist on laying on the coop floor! I sometimes wash those eggs and always wonder whether I should just leave them alone! I usually end up eating those eggs myself instead of selling/giving them away.

Good article which I hope will help a few folks out. As an Araucana addict I have a few chicks suffering from wry neck from time to time. I crush up a human vit E + selenium tablet and mix a tiny bit with 1ml of water. I then feed in a syringe with miraculous results, often within hours for young chicks. The older the bird, the longer it seems to take to have effect.
