Ingredients:

2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. milk
1/4 tsp. honey
cooking oil or shortening

Cooking Instructions

Heat oil or shortening in cast iron skillet or pan. Sift dry ingredients into large mixing bowl, add milk and mix thoroughly. Add more flour as necessary to form a stiff dough. Roll out onto a floured board into large pancake size (you can form a ball in your hands and press it into shape and size). Drop into hot oil and brown both sides, turning only once. Serve hot with honey, jam, preserves or powdered sugar. Serve hot with soups or stews. Alternately, dough can be rolled very thin and cut into strips about 2.5" wide by 3 - 4" long. Cook in oil as stated and place the strips into your soup or stew.

Note: Frybread can be served hot or cold; for breakfast or as a bread with main dishes.
