BBS Jersey Giants Need hatching buddies 9/28 day 10!!(pics)

Here's my pip. It looks like a crack, but it has the characteristic shape of a pip (you just can't tell with my state-of-the-art photography techniques

). These little eggs really are different from duck eggs though. And notice it's not pipped in the same part of the air cell as my duck eggs all pipped in. Very curious to see which direction it zips. Here it is:

You are way more organized than me it seems like I cheated and let everyone else do the hard work and studying and i just copied the paper! You and everyone really work hard to give great hatching info! I have done better and better just reading and learning on BYC!

I love not being in school any more. The rules are completely different, and they suit me way better. I *like* research. And I like helping. Luckily, there are plenty of people who like other stuff, like running loud machinery, lifeguarding, and running organizations, that I would hate doing. Good thing we don't all have to do everything!

And I have another pip! Woo-hoo! I was kind of worried about the remaining three eggs, but it's good to see that at least one of them is good to go! Stats are: 6 eggs total; 1 hatched; 3 pipped; 1 unknown; 1 suspected late quitter.

WooHoo!!! I love baby chicks!!keep hatching little guys!!Congrats on Your new chicks sending You more good hatching vibes!!

Well, judging from the time from pip to zip on this one, I don't expect any more action before pretty late tonight. I am debating taking this little guy out into the brooder, though. The water reservoirs that feed the sponges are getting low, and also there's some slick surfacing in the incubator that is bothering me, and I'm a little worried about it affecting his ability to walk. I want to change that. So right now I'm getting set up with water bottle, etc., to move the little guy and fix the incubator issues. I hope I don't hurt the three that are pipped!

Just move quickly and add more humidity and you should not hurt the remaining eggs. I use a piece of shelf liner that I got from walmart... it is non slip and you can wash it ! love it I almost never have foot/leg problems anymore. and since it is cut to fit you can cut it to the size of the bator then cut some more to fit the brooder and throw some paper towels over it if you want. it comes in different colors and size rolls.

What is the purpose of the circles on top of the eggs ? monitoring air cell size/shape ??????

Thanks! I'm going to get some shelf liner. I just didn't have any handy and was trying to be resourceful!

The circles show the outline of the air cell at different stages. The first was at first candling, 7 days. The second was at last candling, 18 days. The air cell has actually grown considerably since then, as I was able to tell when I shone a light at just the right angle in there. But they seem to always pip & zip right along that line from Day 18.
