Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

OK Here is what I am setting in the bator.

8 Olive Eggers
11 Silkies
2 Black Frizzles
11 Phoenix
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte

Oh, well then ...... okay.

I have five acres, but even though I paid for it, I can't use it for more chickens. My stupid neighbors get to let their dogs run loose on it. My chickens have to be locked up in a secured coop and covered run. This Jack Russell terrier is one of a pack of three that run loose. Here he is right out my window going to the coop to see if the gate is unlocked! If I let my chickens out or don't get the lock perfect every time it will be mass murder here. I am so sick of it. I never dreamed I would buy this much property and not get to use it! I am jealous of those who can have chickens and let them free range. In many ways I was better off on my fenced half acre.

I hate these animals and their irresponsible, negligent, ignorant owners! Sorry to hijack the thread for venting but I had to get it out! I am very frustrated.

Use a paint-ball gun. stings the animal yet no damage and the owner then knows they are roaming your land and maybe lock them up.

That would be great, I think I mentioned in Post #1 that it really is the honor system. That said, I'm gonna take a pic of the clock today at noon with pics of the eggs in my bators.

Night shift back on.

Wow, some of you REALLY have confidence in my hatching of shipped eggs. I'm only expecting 40 of 82!

Some of you have told me how many you have set, but made no guess as to how many chicks I'd get.

Lots still haven't come on to tell me how many they have set.

Remember everyone to go to post #1 and read about the contests.

I'm realizing that most here are just hatching a long to hatch chicks!!!

Kathyinmo, you are the Hatching Goddess.

I put a fire in the fireplace in the family room and the hovabator went up to 99 degrees. Looking like a Jan 2nd hatch there for me.... and the temp WILL go down once the eggs are set. Still haven't used the spot check in both bators yet.

So for a moment now, I'm caught up with this thread

Wow Mary, I'm afraid if I were you, I'd get out a good 22 caliber and start putting some dogs down.
It should be unlawful for them to let their dogs free range like that, that's how hunting packs start... even for 'tame' dogs.

I'd either shoot them or put up a dog proof fence around the entire perimeter of the 5 acres...I can't even imagine how much that would cost.

Time to try and go back to sleep. I've been chatting with a kid from Pakistan on Facebook. Interesting place. glad I don't live there!

Setting eggs in less than 10 hours!!!

I'm planning to let you know on the eggs BUT BUT I have to see if they get here today. I'm not waiting the 24 hour set time, just won't turn em right away and we'll see what happens. They'll probably all be frozen!

I have to leave for work early and get home late so I'll have to set the chicken eggs late.

But my quail eggs will be on time since I don't work on the day they are set!

Everytime I come back to look over this interesting thread, there's a new way to win. I guess I'm in. I have eggs in both my bators already so I can only add 20 or so today. I'll have to post the final count when I put them all in. I will not be home to set everything for lockdown and will have to rely on my 19 year old daughter to do it for me. Yikes! Might have to come up with a different plan for that! I'll just be setting EE's out of my own flock and one ameruacana pullet egg. She just started laying this past week.

Question. Do I have to set them in at noon today? Can it be a little later?

My guess is 61 and I'm gonna say- EE, Java, EE. Good luck Mahonri!

It's Saturday! Just 7 1/2 hours to starting! I am setting seven lavender Orp eggs and 14 EE eggs as of right now. I am hoping to get one more EE egg this morning (blue wheaten AM roo over a GLW). She seems to lay in the late morning but she is a new layer and laid yesterday so I might not get any more until after starting. DH is happy this is going to start today since we ate most of the eggs we had in the fridge last night for dinner. He doesn't think it's fair that since they are finally laying we don't get to eat them right now. .
Let's get this started!
Saying a little prayer for everyone. Hope all the eggs that still needed to arrive have or will arrive before noon today! Hope everyone's hatch is wonderful!
