OK.......I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be! First time incubating for me, and I just hope that my thermometers/hygrometers are close to accurate and I don't mess things up too badly. I will be happy if ANY eggs hatch!!
So, I am setting 14 eggs tomorrow. These are all from my own backyard flock, and will mostly be mutt chickens. I have a pretty EE rooster over several different breeds of hens/pullets. Almost all of the eggs are pullet eggs, with most of those being the 'firsts' laid just this week. I'm sure that's not going to help my hatchability either. But I'm really hoping, and excited to see if any of those brand new eggs hatch.
So here they are in order of collection:
And here they are laid out by breed:
4 Mottled Javas (from 2 pullets)
5 EE's (from blue pullet)
3 Cuckoo Marans (eggs aren't dark at all......kind of sad about that)
1 SLW (from hen)
1 Black Star (from hen) - she's at the end of her laying cycle and is giving us very large, but kind of 'odd' eggs. Hubby wanted this one in the bator "just to see if it will hatch"! Even he's getting into it!!! LOL
For the Mahonri's Hatch Contest:
Number that will hatch (I asked hubby to guess, so here it is): 62
1st three breeds: Mottled Java, Icelandic, Lavendar Orp
Bring on the Hatch-A-Thon!!!
(Do I start worrying NOW??? Or wait until tomorrow......)
