Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Looks like a predator on your property .... you have every right to take care of that, ya know.... Just sayin' ..... I would, in a heartbeat.

He is just one of many. I would be shootin' all day. I have talked with animal control and I am currently photographing and videotaping all the at large dogs for documentation. Then we are going to try to trap them and have them picked up. I am ordering signs to notify neighbors that this property is no longer the off-leash, at-large, dog park! But when it comes down to it, I will probably sell this property and move to get away from the problem. It is always that way. The dog owners who do not control their animals always win in the end. If I shoot their mangy dog they'll just get another one. It isn't fair.

Edited to say I do not a want a livestock guardian dog or any other dog for that matter. Living next to inconsiderate, ignorant, dog owners has made a dog hater out of me. And yes, I realize it isn't the dogs fault, but every single home I have owned has been a nightmare in the end due to dog issues. i.e. biting, barking, escaping, chewing, crapping, killing, harrassing, etc.

If you love your home and property, Mary .... just start shootin' ..... It has to end. Sheeesh, some people are just idiots. Makes ya wonder what the heck they are thinking when they get dogs. You should not have to move again. Make THEM move.

ETA: I am rather cold hearted when it comes to things like this.

That's a beautiful group of eggs ! This is only my second time , all of mine are from my mixed flock of pullets , and I know for sure at least one egg is a first egg ; we have a lot in common . I'm glad your husband is getting into it and wish you guys the best .

You are a good guy.

Mary, here, if they attack your livestock you can legally kill the animal, and the owner can be charged with a misdemeanor, and pay restitution. I haven't gone so far as to have the owner charged, but if it happens again, I definately will, and hopefully will have the dead culprit and unfortunately his prey to prove the point. For 6 months after the last attack I waited for them to come back, but they didn't. There are other dogs around that will look at the chickens as they run by, but won't go near them. I don't like it, but I leave them alone. If they show any interest in the chickens, then I just sit and wait...

Bob's Henhouse :

Well, better get off to bed so I can get the bator and eggs ready tomorrow. I'll post my egg count and Mahonri guess tomorrow.

Night, Bob.

It's getting late .... time for the night shift to take over. Mahonri should be comin' on anytime .... he is King Insomnia.

I'm setting 21 eggs as follows:

3 marans crosses - Wheaten marans roo over wheatens and blues
2 olive eggers or blue wheaten ameraucanas.
12 wheaten marans over blue, black, barred rocks
4 salmon faverolles

I predict that Mahonri will hatch 74 out of 82 and the first to hatch will be 2 Icelandics and 1 W/BW Marans.

Thank you Steve! Sounds like we definitely have a lot in common.......but I never would know it from your supportive posts. You really seem to exude calm, confident, hatching vibes.

Be sure and let me (us) know if any of your 'first eggs' hatch or not. This is all so fun!!
