Don't you just love it when the non-chicken hubby starts to warm up to the chickens! I have been seeing the change in my hubby, too. He likes checking for eggs, and will throw scratch for them. He even does a head count and locks them up for us when he beats us home.

He's so cute when he's being sweet to the chickens.
 
My hubby seems to just take over anymore... I just let him. Anyone that wants to KISS my chicks can collect eggs, even find the first eggs too

Unless the just underweight specimen showed amazing type, shy of size. If we are talking about a roo, for example, is underweight by a few ounces, he shouldn't be counted out as a potential breeder if he shows great type in appearance. The one that is larger could be a mess of traits. I would choose the smallish one in that case.

If both specimens are equal in everything but size, then Jean is absolutely right...choose the larger size. I can attest that amongst other things, size is an issue with Lavender Ameraucanas, being on the small side, and one of the goals to be improved upon.​

Not one of my Ameraucanas these past years has gone broody! Just about every other breed I've ever had, has. Go figure.

While I'm on this thread, for those that know the Ameraucana's..and this may be a silly question. Do they normally lay a small egg? I realize that these two are her first, but I remember when I got the eggs from the breeder, the eggs weren't very large. She looks to be a good sized girl, but I have an EE that is huge, and her eggs aren't real large either..like I said, maybe a silly question..could be it's different for different birds.
 
They normally lay a medium sized egg. It will usually start out small though.

HI All~ I'm new to chickens but I LOVE Ameracaunas. My Wyandotte hen kindly surrogated a batch for me this summer and I am curious as to which "shade" of blue is correct. I have a super beautiful light one, a medium, and a relatively dark one. If I get good pictures and post them would you all be willing to give me your best cyber shot at evaluating them, color wise?
