I remember my first hatch, I set 15, locked down 5 and had one hatch. You are doing great with your hatch if you're putting that many in lockdown. If you get hatch fever like I did, I'm guessing this will not be your last go at it. I am setting my 8th hatch this week since January. My first...
Sorry Tera, that chick looks to have stopped developing about day 8. It is just too small and I don't see any veins. By day 17 you should see all dark in the bottom part of the shell and usually if given a minute or two, movement. Good luck with the rest, pray for some new chicks peeping in a...
Hi, I'm trying to find more info on treating wry neck and I came across this forum. I notice on your profile Morgan, pix of a chick on a certain day with clear symptoms then a day later markedly better. Did you also use some kind of formula or medication on this chick? Then to you amberoxo...
I have a silkie that is about 7 months old that developed wry neck at about 2 weeks old. Now another is developing wry neck from a batch of 20 I hatched about 2 weeks ago. I have a vitamin mix I got from a posting on here that included B vit. but it didn't specify which B vit. Does it matter...
Super bummed as I had one Paint doing great. Today after one day in lockdown, I opened lid for about 15 seconds to let some humididty out as it was 84%. The cord was caught between wall and bator causing lid to tip dumping a metal nut I forgot was on there denting my paint. Is there any chance...
10 eggs today from my 9 layers, first time production has outnumbered producers. Getting more than 60/week from those 9, very happy with my 1 year olds.
Wye yes Russ, it is on the right side and near the neck. You are rockin awesome my friend, thank you so much for the info. I am not quite a year into my first year of raising birds and have much to learn. Again, I say thank you for your insight. I actually did not check this morning having just...
I noticed tonight on my 1 month old chick a lump under the skin on it's chest. It is fairly good size, about 1" diameter and squishy; right at the surface yet under the skin. Hoping it is harmless and does not get any worse. If I do find myself needing to remove it, is there something I can use...
Running a dry incubation in a Hovabator w/fan. Have a bulb thermo below turner and another on top of eggs. Both read consistantly 100.0 degrees +/- what the naked eye can't see. My digi thermo at about mid egg range consistantly reads tween 98.2-98.8. Just been leaving thermostat alone calling...
Dropped eggs this past Saturday, 52 silkies, bator is loaded. Having to turn ten of them by hand. Would love it if I had to turn the ten through the entire hatch but logic and experience tell me at first candle I'll be throwing enough away they'll all fit in the turner.
A dozen from Huckle...
Just picked up two dozen from Karen Sat. They went in the bator that night and am looking for a Feb. 18 hatch. Her birds are beautiful and worth every penny I spent to get them. Good luck with your hatch whoever was the winner.
Is egg to egg contact while incubating OK? I have more than my turning racks can handle, am considering standing them up inbetween eggs set in their depressions which means they'll lean against other eggs but in theory they should be forced by the eggs they lean against to move back and forth...
