Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

A lot of it is personal, and might reflect poorly on the memory of some of the people involved. The highlights are included in what was written, and is available (to anyone as far as I know) in our handbook for a very modest cost.

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That's just it. The newsletters don't tell the whole story. The papers I have in my possession are not duplicated elsewhere, and that is why I wrote a more extensive history. Actually, there is enough material for many hundreds of pages, but I just included what I thought would be the most...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Richard Orr did the best he could with that work, but it leaves out a lot of detail that is incorporated into the newly published history compiled by yours truly from original source documents that he did not have access to, much of it personal correspondence that was saved and preserved. Also...

    American Salmon Bantam

Gary Underwood, Illinois, of Rhode Island Red fame and son of the late, great Red breeder George Underwood, has been working on his own bantam creation for a number of years. He is calling it the American Salmon. Same coloring as the Salmon Faverolles, but without the extra toes and minus muffs...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

If you mean Jerry Segler, he was a charter member of the Ameraucana Bantam Club in 1978, and he is 100% correct. Jerry is still a member of The Ameraucana Alliance and has been named Honorary Vice President of that breed club, along with Jim Fegan and some other guy.

No drama coming from here. I have good friends in both clubs. But I believe it is important to go to multiple sources for answers and then consider the qualifications of the persons who respond. The internet, including BYC, can disseminate bad information with practically the speed of light...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I agree Greenleaf. The ABC has a lot of good members and some hatchery operators, but the originators pretty much all belong to Ameraucana Alliance since the club split. Any Ameraucana question may be asked there, including genetics questions, and they will be responded to by highly...

    Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

For Lavender Ameraucana bantams, why not go to the source? John Blehm and a few other Ameraucana Alliance members made them. John's contact info is in the Breeders Directory on the Ameraucana Alliance website. Bob Rennolet out in South Dakota also has some nice ones. I helped him set up...

Lavender is the proper name, and if approached in the right way, I believe the APA will accept the term. Not at all sure about the ABA for bantams.

    Chantecler Thread!

I asked the question because a good representation of the breed would give your words some credibility since you claim no achievements. Your words, not mine. Opinions are about a dime a dozen. Actual experience bears a little more weight than theories. There is a tremendous amount of...

    Chantecler Thread!

Maybe you feel that people are smarter if they are from far away? I already have an extensive poultry library, and have access to all the genetic information that is needed to breed good partridge birds. And a ton of experience. It does not take anywhere close to 40 years to...

    Chantecler Thread!

Why would I spend good money on books from a country that does not even breed chickens the same way we do? Seems rather stupid in my estimation. Are there no poultry geneticists in North America??? There is plenty of good genetics information on the internet if you know where to look, and...
