dirt is not grit. If you have some sand or very small gravel use that instead. Good luck! You sound like a awesome person and i admire you for all your efforts!
I have 7 week old chicks outside in a coop with an attached run. They are in there full time right now. Problem is, when it is dark they just huddle up in a corner and do not go into the coop. I did lock them up for a few days when they first went out there so they knew that was home. I have...
I have 7 week old chicks, they are in an attached coop/run all day. When dark comes, they huddle up in a corner in the run. They do not go inside the coop. I have to pick each one up and put them in at night. I did have them locked in the coop for the first few days so they knew that was home...
I have 7 week old chicks that are outside in the coop with an attched run. I have food and water in the run, and food and water inside the coop. Do they really need food inside the coop for night?
I got mine vacinated. My in laws have chickens and didn't get them vacinated and some came down with Meriks disease and died. Now it is in the soil permanantly and all chickens current and future are exposed to it. It's worth it!
I tried picking it up like that and they all fought to get away. I called the hatchery and they say my order was all pullets so i guess i have to just wait and see... Thanks for your input everyone:) I still think it's a boy.
maybe i should try to contact the hatchery and ask what the blue if for. They were supposed to be sexed (for girls). Its just odd that #1 is the only one with the red comb and bulge starting.
My bantam did the same thing, it drank but would not eat and would just sleep while the others were running around. I put some plain yogurt on my finger and rubbed it on her beak and she started to eat little bits off my finger. Then i tried putting some crumble in my hand and she ate a few...
Yes, the wing tips are there, but much shorter than all the rest and has no tail feathers yet. The other black one has a little longer wing feathers, but no tail also. So does the little munchkin in the last photo, but she is a bantam and very slow to develop. I am hoping she is a girl cause she...
oh wait, i was wrong, it's the australorps that have a white spot on the head if its a boy. The wyandottes females are supposed to have dark legs. At least that is what i got from some sexing website. Can anyone confirm this who has experience? I tried to wave something over their heads to see...
"1, 3, & 4 look like roos to me "
Interestingly those are the three that charge each other and have the thicker legs. However, the americauna and australorp have a lot more feathers than the SLW (the one in question). When do they usually start to crow? Also, i thought the SLW sexing is done...
What is the blue on his/her head? I know where I get my sexed chicks from, they put the blue on their heads to let you know they are boys.
They came from both Privett and the Belt Hatchery. 3 out of 5 came with the blue on their heads. They were all supposed to be girls. I was under the...
They should be fully feathered to go outside at night. I think that is around 6-8 weeks. If it is cold in your area, supplimental heat lamp in the coop should be fine.
This is the one in question. She is 2 1/2 weeks old. All the others dont have a red comb like that. She is also a meanie. What do you all think? She was supposed to be sexed but i know that is not 100%.
Here are the rest for comparison.
