Thank you for your thoughts. I was able to get a better picture today and it looks like there are two lumps. One on his head to the left of his comb and one on the same side but toward his neck. We were actually going to re-home him but can't do that now. I mostly concerned if he is...
I have a 7 month rooster that was fine until yesterday. He couldn't stand up and would fall to the back or side. I noticed a lump on the top of his head on one side of his comb. He will drink when I bring water to him and eat treats if placed in front of him but otherwise flops around to...
I know this is old. But I have a 7 month old rooster with the same thing but the lump is further back on his head . He can barely stand. Just flops around. He will drink when I bring it to him as well as take treats. Did you ever find out what caused this?
We have 3 original hens that are 2 years old and introduced new chickens this spring. The new chickens are 2 hens and 3 roosters (did not intend to keep extra roosters)The new ones are 12 weeks old. We just rehomed the two extra roosters and kept the least dominant one that lets us hold him...
Thank you for your thoughts and time. I was also thinking pictures 2 and 4. However I think all of the lemon ones crowed yesterday morning. I am hoping I mixed one up because I would like one of the lemons to be a hen. I'll keep you posted.
We got 6 hatching eggs. 3 hatched the gold color and 3 hatched lemon. I am not sure the feather color is coming out sex linked but can anyone tell from comb and wattles what these are? I am suspecting that gold #2 is a female. Thanks! They all seem to be quite bold and independent. A few...
Do you have an update on your chicks? We just hatched 6 gold deathlayer eggs, 3 gold and 3 lighter colored ones. they are about 5 weeks old now, not white so I'm thinking lemon. They are difficult to sex and I'm wondering if the color difference can be used to determine anything.
I am quite confused by this post. I am trying to figure out some genetics on some eggs I hatched that were unexpectedly lemon. It is my understanding the males are ZZ and females are ZW. Is the silver gene on the Z or W chromosome? Thanks!
That was so much fun. Thanks for the help and tips as we went. My first incubation was a success. 6 of the 6 deathlayers hatched by this morning and the 3 out of 6 black copper marans that made it to lockdown all hatched late morning. These were shipped eggs with two of the deathlayers...
3 hatched today. I can't believe how they keep pecking each other so soon...even during the last poor chicks hatch. They seem fine but I'd like to take them out but I have 6 left (some pipped some not). They seem hungry. I'll see how things are tomorrow.
I placed my eggs in lockdown this morning. I have 6 out of 6 deathlayers and 3 out of 6 black copper marans. I didn't see any signs of internal pips and from what I have read, it seems that you don't always see the internal pips at day 18 candling but how do people see them if you don't want...
Thank you for your response. Just to clarify. If I do want to change the humidity I would increase it right? My understanding is that the eggs are losing too much weight which would indication too low of humidity and too much evaporation and I should increase the humidity.
