Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Oh lots of things have been happening! We have enlarged our outside run. Have added two hatched chicks, re-homed 3 handsome roosters. Lost one of our sweet girls to heat-exhaustion. (We do have one of her chicks.) Hubby is bonding with our Roo. Girls are laying like crazy at this time. Our shy...

Started with 4, one died. Perfect number would be 6. So ordered 4 hens and one Roo. 8 is a good number. So… have 4 more coming in May. 12 total. Still 6 only twice🤗

Thin egg shells (NOT soft shell)

Thank you all for your answers. I will cut back on the treats. Right now they are free ranging. Would it be ok to still give them wet feed for in the morning? I wish there was a guide for scratch amounts and treats per chicken you own. Maybe they won’t eat me if I only give them feed and free...

Thin egg shells (NOT soft shell)

I am having the same issue with one of my almost year old pullet. She has always had a funny way of laying. First egg was off the high roost and busted. I have been finding squishy eggs in the coop. I have 4 pullets that started laying the last of February. So I’m not sure that the soft eggs...

Raising chicks in shed - need heat source

Do you have a dog crate or a large tub for them? You could wrap the dog crate in cardboard boxes and put one inside the crate they will huddle together for warmth. Plenty of bedding/shavings will help also. Like Ridgerunner says, hang a light above the crate or tub so that it is secure.

Is it true that pointy eggs are most likely a rooster?

Well I guess it’s just wishful thinking. May try it anyway if any of the ladies chooses to become broody.

Is it true that pointy eggs are most likely a rooster?

I want to eventually raise chicks. This would help in determining how many hens you want at a time. It would help lower the rooster factor and having to determine what do with them.Rounded shaped and wide eggs were more likely to produce female chicks. While pointed shaped and narrow eggs were...

Making chicken feed with pellet feed mill machine.

Try adding a little apple or blueberries on top. Use hot or warm water to wet it. Mine are not real crazy about their new feed but if I add a little fish, fruit or juice from soup they gobble it up
