My hens like to express their joy from laying an egg by cackling as load as they can. My coop is about 50 yards from the house and we can sometimes hear them.
I had the same problem. I put golf balls in the nest boxes and left the eggs in a little bit longer. They all figured it out and are laying in the nest boxes.
When my hens started laying, I put golf balls in nest box. At that time it was one long nest box. I would put the golf balls near the ends of the nest box. When I would go out to collect the eggs, all the eggs and the golf balls were in one pile. The golf ball that started out over a foot...
I have a ramp on mine. The first night one of the hens roosted in the doorway with the other 5 on the ramp below her. The next night one was in the nestbox one on the floor and four on the ramp. A few nights ago, we put them all on the roost after they settled in for the night and now they...

My current coop only has a rooster and hen (both 1 year old and banties) I have six RIR pullets that are 4 months old and I would like to add them to my existing coop.
Can I just add the six to the coop?
Thanks for the info. I think we will just let the mom do her thing. I will put some chick starter in a chick feeder and put it next to their favorite siting area. It is pretty cute watching the little chick follow her mom. My daughters are very excited.
My Daughter's hen has been sitting on an egg and it hatched. Should we bring the chick inside and put her in a small brooder or just let the mom do her thing.
If I leave the chick with the mom, what will it eat? I have some chick starter that I am feeding some two month olds but we are...
