I like your design. What did you plant to cover the run?

    Stealth chickens?

My hens like to express their joy from laying an egg by cackling as load as they can. My coop is about 50 yards from the house and we can sometimes hear them.

    Not laying in nesting boxes.

I had the same problem. I put golf balls in the nest boxes and left the eggs in a little bit longer. They all figured it out and are laying in the nest boxes.

What if I find 2 eggs in the exact same spot under the same hen?

When my hens started laying, I put golf balls in nest box. At that time it was one long nest box. I would put the golf balls near the ends of the nest box. When I would go out to collect the eggs, all the eggs and the golf balls were in one pile. The golf ball that started out over a foot...

    De-Worming question.

My understanding is that you should not use the eggs for two weeks until the wazine is completely out of their system.

    ladder or ramp?

I have a ramp on mine. The first night one of the hens roosted in the doorway with the other 5 on the ramp below her. The next night one was in the nestbox one on the floor and four on the ramp. A few nights ago, we put them all on the roost after they settled in for the night and now they...

FREE chicken coop plan (nice one too) on the Purina Mills Website

We just finished building a coop based on this design. One chicken decided to roost on the door opening and the rest lined up on the ramp. Hopefully today they will get used to the coop and decide to sleep inside.

    Chicken run

Big fan of sand in Chicken Run. No more lost shoes from sticking in the mud and the poop just seems to disappear.

    Railroad Ties as Base

Nine years is a pretty good track record. I have a slight slope where I want to put the kennel so I thought I would try and take care of two things at once. Manage predator digging and leveling.

    Railroad Ties as Base

I am considering using railroad ties dug into the ground as a base for the Dog Kennel we are using for a chicken run. Is there any reason to be concerned about the creosote and chemicals on the railroad ties?

Adding 6 New hens to the coop

My current coop only has a rooster and hen (both 1 year old and banties) I have six RIR pullets that are 4 months old and I would like to add them to my existing coop. Can I just add the six to the coop?

Hen hatched her egg, What now?

Thanks for the info. I think we will just let the mom do her thing. I will put some chick starter in a chick feeder and put it next to their favorite siting area. It is pretty cute watching the little chick follow her mom. My daughters are very excited.

Hen hatched her egg, What now?

My Daughter's hen has been sitting on an egg and it hatched. Should we bring the chick inside and put her in a small brooder or just let the mom do her thing. If I leave the chick with the mom, what will it eat? I have some chick starter that I am feeding some two month olds but we are...
