I witnessed an interesting situation this morning while out graining our 3 horses. We have a old gielding, a 10-12 year old morgan mare and her 3 year old filly. The girls are always glued to each other all the time. It always seemed our older morgan mare was always the dominant, "in charge"...
Florida Chick,
No actually we are right in middle of the country, KC Missouri to be exact. The hay is definitely not moldy...and I had no other choice but to buy the Timothy hay. Without getting into it, it's a long story...I just had a baby, had a c section and therefore have had to rely on...
I doubt that about the Blister Beetles because they literally took one bite about and then just kind of walked away, like they weren't interested. And the hay was very expensive at the store, kept in a dry location and didn't appear to have any problems. They are a big store, they sell a lot of...
We were previously feeding a mixed grass round bale, I think mainly brome...but I wasn't happy with it at all. Had Fox Tail in it...caused one of my mares to have an outbreak of sores in her mouth and she had to go on antibiotics to get rid of them...this is the second time this has happened...
We ran out of our round baled hay for our 4 horses and since it's the middle of the week, we will be unable to get more until this weekend. Which means we had to buy some expensive square baled hay from the local farm store...it was about 3 or 4 times more expensive than what we typically pay...
He's on a really good, high quality dog food...we checked out the ingredients and it's much better than other dog foods we could find out there. We have 4 dogs total and he's the only one that's itchy these days...so we know it's not the dog food...plus he's been on that food for some time now...
Does anyone have any tips/suggestions to help our dog's dry skin issues?
The weather here has changed, it's cold outside equaling dry air inside. Our 90 lb Lab mix has been very itchy ever since the weather changed and he's up to date on his flea treatments, etc...so we know it's not that...
Well, this morning I woke up and the swelling and everything were gone...she looks and acts completely normal...so whatever it was, guess it wasn't that serious! But thank you for your replies!!
I'm wondering if you could help me figure out what this is and what I should do (if anything) about it...
Today I noticed right before leaving for a appointment, that my 10 year old mutt had a swollen lip/cheek area. So I felt it...warm to the touch and hard and swollen. I pulled it up to look...
Her head shaking is still going on (it's 8:30am)...but it's only occasional. Otherwise, her behavior is completely normal. She slept through the rest of the morning w/o much shaking. It's more a tickle in the ear type of shake of the head. Which makes me wonder if it's ear infection coming...
It's 5am...my med sized beloved mixed breed female who's 10 yrs old, woke my hubby and I up (VERY unlike her) by shaking her head every so often (the noise of her collar/tags when she shakes). She's had ear infections off and on in the past...always related to allergies. She's also been bitten...
I can't believe this...it's deja vu all over again.
I went out to the barn this morning to feed the horses...instantly noticed my old gielding's eye was swollen and he was holding it closed. My heart sank when I got a better look at him...here we go again, another horse, another eye problem...
Hi there. Anyone familiar w/KOREAN LESPEDEZA HAY and horses?
The guy who sometimes supplies our hay told us today he has some hay for sale w/this in it. He said he doesn't know how horses would do on it but just wanted to tell us he has hay w/it for sale. We share the same vet, so I plan on...
Well, our little 4 mo old filly (and mama) are coming home from the Vet's this weekend...she will have been there for about 2 1/2 weeks. Wow. And after a lot of medical attention and special care, they were able to save her little eye! YAY!
Unfortunately, the Vet bill is going to be HUGE...but...
I got my little rabbit from a pet store when I was a Junior in High School....the pet store guy said they only lived about 5 years. Well, I'm almost 31 yrs old now...and the little guy's still here...he lives w/my parents and is doing just fine. Mom says he could live another couple years...
