I get my neighbor to trim my mean roo's spurs. Actually he only has one now, since he tore one off somehow. But he uses a hacksaw and trims down to about a half an inch. He is the only one who's not scared to get spured by Roo.

I have 5 left from my original flock and they will be four this coming easter. The roo is a beast, believe me I wish he would go..well maybe I don't cuz he does keep everyone in line..lol

Soaking here too...and speaking of pokeberries, mine have been filling up like crazy on them. Purple poop everywhere!

Ughh..must be going around. My oldest 4 girls are just now finishing their molt. They are going to be 4yrs in the spring. They have never gone this long without laying, and my young girls haven't started. Now with the longer nights may just be next spring before I see an egg. Very fustrating!

When I put my order in this spring I ordered 2 Iowa Blue Pullets..can't find anything on the web about them. I just went and looked at the Ideal home page again to read up about them(this is where I ordered them). My pullets are both laying..bantam size eggs, and don't look anything like the...

haven't even culled a bird, I've read about it. I'm a hands on kinda person though learn better by doing. Just curious about the video on youtube..did you just search for butchering chickens? Thanks, Margaret

Yeah...finally got an egg from one of my new girls. They are 21 weeks now! Don't know which one is was those, know it wasn't one of the EE cuz it was brown. I was so excited. Glad too, my big girls are all molting at the same time so they are on strike, and looking mighty funny!

I also meant to add that I get all my "critters" shots from Tractor Supply...4 dollars a shot definately beats 250. I took my cat the a spay neuter clinic..it was 50 dollars...males are always cheaper. You can check and see if there is a clinic near you, they also do a huge spay/neuter program...

My snake population is very low now, along with the lizards. Between my cat and the chooks they don't stand a chance. I can still remember the first time I saw one eat a snake...it was atleast 6 inches long. GROSS! They also killed a baby mole in the run. They were playing with it...

My sis just told me..this totally breaks my heart. Dirty Dancing by far my favorite movie. Can't believe his fight is over so soon.

What temp? When I have to turn my heat on at night to stay warm, chickens get closed up tight.

Well I did notice that a couple of them were finally getting fluffy butts. Would be nice if they start laying before it gets cold.
