    Managing Mixed Birds

The ducklings are fine. It’s only the chicks the peacocks go after. The Geese and ducks stick close to the ducklings and no peacocks have even gone after a duckling. They seem to be only going after the chicks. I have mamas on some eggs which we will enclose when they hatch.

    Managing Mixed Birds

We have a big yard full of birds. We have 2 Geese, 2 Peacocks, tons of ducks and lots of chickens. I LOVE having lots of birds!! I have noticed some strange things this spring and am wondering how others manage multiple breeds of birds? 2 ducks have hatched a total of 23 ducklings in the past...

Ducklings very different sizes (cute pictures)

We have a very similar combo! A Cayuga and a crested duck that we got from someone who found them near a creek by their apartment last year. The Cayuga is a beautiful boy and the white Peking is a beefy sweet accident prone cutie. lol I adore them.

    Sugar Gliders

We have one male pair we are fostering and another surprise female/male pair that my oldest daughter is bonding with. She is adopting them. It was a rush rescue and a few surprises have arisen.

    Sugar Gliders

We were asked to foster some Sugar Gliders that were rescued from a hoarding situation recently. We have 4 total. One bonded male pair in a cage and another bonded male/female in another. We anticipate she is likely already bred and we are keeping that pair (+) and getting the male neutered...

    Losing birds

Dang.....I was afraid of this. No we don't have any turkey hens. We tried to get one a few months ago but she disappeared....coyotes I assume. I will see if I can get a few hens again for him and put them in a separate pen. I feel so bad he was our favorite Rooster :(

    Losing birds

I am not sure what to do here. I have lost 2 chickens in the last 2 days. Today our best Rooster was found dead when I went out to feed, fairly fresh as he was warm, with no marks on him. None. Not any at all. We lost one a few days ago who looked like her intestines had been pulled out by...

    Leg Mites on fosters

Only got one picture this time because he was feisty and we just needed to clean/slather and be done. He is improving still but not as drastically as before. Might also be I didn’t get a chance to wash and change for several days Overall I’m still very happy with the progress. I may try...

Goat not eating grain and soft stool

I get some soft stool from time to time on my goats and deworm in fall and spring. I always add some probiotics to their wormer too. That usually immediately gets the stool back to the right consistency.

I'm so sorry!!! How many did you lose? That is so hard. We lost 5 birds to dogs once and it was awful :(

    New to raising ducks

We have 10 ducks....5 drakes and 5 hens. We are getting rid of a few this weekend and will either separate all but 2 drakes during breeding season or allow them go get butchered. Just want to make sure hens arent being drowned or over bred.

    Leg Mites on fosters

Roosters feet today 1/25. Meant to wash and reappply Nu Stock but found they all seem to be doing well and feet looking better and had other things going on with other critters so am putting the next soak and scrub off another day or 2.

    New to raising ducks

How old are they? I would monitor them and see who mates with who and if anyone is being picked on or any males that are being too aggressive. Our Mallard hen was a year old last year and paired up with a drake, laid her eggs in some tall grass on the edge of our yard and hatched 4 ducklings. We...
