    Lame chicken ... help!

Thanks so much for the responses! froggiesheins ... How do I tell if it's a problem with a tendon? She doesn't appear to have any swelling or anything. Her leg looks normal. She stands on it, but just can't use it for walking. As soon as she tries to walk on it, her leg gives way and she falls...

    Lame chicken ... help!

I have a Buff Orpington hen that is 10 months old. Two weeks ago I noticed she was lame so I brought her in hoping her leg would heal. Unfortunately there seems to be no improvement. She walks on her hock. She has no noticeable injuries or ailments, other than she's limping. She had been eating...

    Chick Moving Eggs?

I'm curious to see if you get many people weigh in on this subject. I just cleaned up my incubator today after hatching chicks on Tuesday. I had 7 out of 12 make it to lockdown. One pipped on day 20 but never made it ... I think it shrinkwrapped and ended up dying. Two successfully hatched on...

Chicken poo pic ... Is this normal or should I be worried?

I have a 8 week old RIR pullet. I found several of these droppings in her pen this morning and this afternoon (see pic). I've read a bit about normal intestinal shedding and coccidiosis. I did run to the store to get some Corid in case I need it. Is this normal or not? She has several of these...

    Should I feed medicated feed?

Thanks everyone! I didn't want to get this far and then lose some!

    Should I feed medicated feed?

I have a group of chicks that is about 8 weeks old and another that is about 7 weeks old that I'd like to move outside. They've been on non-medicated feed thus far. Should I switch them to medicated feed before putting them outside or can I continue with the non-medicated variety?

Humidity ... how high is too high during hatching?

I'm really nervous about the humidity. I have two chicks that have hatched and four more to go. One hatched about 8 hours ago, and the other about 2 hours ago. The first baby is still pretty wet and doesn't seem to be drying out, neither is the second one. Humidity has climbed to 78%. I have am...

Humidity ... how high is too high during hatching?

It's day 21 and I have seven eggs that are in my incubator. One died during pipping this morning and another two have hatched late this afternoon and tonight. Humidity is up to 76%. Should I be alarmed? How high is too high for the rest of the unhatched eggs?

    Our first hatchling ever!!!!

I can't respond as to your foot question, but I can certainly appreciate your jubilation over your new chick! I've tried three times to hatch eggs and I got my first one today, too! Got some as far as about day 19 last time so I'm so excited!!! I'm just hoping things continue to go well for her...

My new chick is lonely! Please send good vibes!

I'm on day 21 of hatching. Yesterday I had one pip but no zip and I'm pretty sure it has died ... no activity with it and it just looks different than it did earlier. One other one has hatched. She made it out in about 3 hours. Now I'm waiting for 5 others to hatch. I'm hoping they do so soon. I...

Help please? Are my RIR pullets?

Sorry to jump into your thread with concerns of my own, but after reading these posts and reviewing the pics (especially those of Violet), now I'm wondering about my RIRs. I purchased them as pullets, and thought they were, but what does everyone think? My birds are about 7.5 weeks old. I'm...

Pipping but no zipping after 24 hours ... help! pics

This is the third batch of eggs I've tried to hatch. All three of the batches have been shipped eggs. I haven't gotten any live chicks yet. The last two batches I lost them at all different stages, from about 14 to 19 days. I was afraid my humidity levels were too inconsistent last time so I've...

Pipping but no zipping after 24 hours ... help! pics

What do you consider high? From day 1-18 it ran around low to mid 40s. Now I've bumped it up to right around 62-65 (wet bulb 88). Should I go higher?

Pipping but no zipping after 24 hours ... help! pics

I was so excited to see my first chick pipping yesterday morning at Day 20! Now 24 hours later at Day 21 it's barely progressed and just seems to be sitting there. Is it already too late or is there something that I can do? I know it was still alive last night because we saw it moving and heard...
