    2 roo's?

Here's my Ameraucana chicks- around 10-12 weeks I think. Anyways one is obviously a cockerel with bigger comb and hackle feathers. The other one doesn't have hackle feathers, they are short and rounded compared to its sibling. The issue is they're both about the same size/shape which is throwing...

    Black Ameraucana sex

[/IMG] Another week in. The one with the big comb is definitely a roo, feathers are shiny with hint of green/purple, roo attitude and all. The other has a shorter tail, stands less upright, has dull feathers and just throwing me off. I will keep them both longer if the one could potentially be...

    Black Ameraucana sex

Questionable chick on the left. Hopeful for girl on the right. Both will let me put them on their back, both are spunky. Supposedly 4 weeks. Supposedly true ameracauana from a certified breeder. Thoughts?

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Ohh that makes sense because we could not figure out why he was so much darker, so that means he and his sister are our sweetest birds. Our BR girl is quick footed and feisty.

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

We currently have bigger birds- barred rocks, RIR, black sex link all 4 months old. There're fairly docile and our BR rooster was the sweetest but he had to go because we live in town and I couldn't bear the thought of accidentally killing him with a collar. I'm just saying these chicks sure are...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I have a question about Ameraucana behavior. My 2 black Ameraucana chicks about 4 weeks old are already pretty feisty, they can hunt down bugs and take flight better than my 4 month old chickens. One even caught and ate a flying butterfly yesterday. My oldest chickens I raised from day 1 mainly...

I saw the video of the wildfire and it is chilling to see how fast and alive that fire becomes. I'm not sure if we can prevent stupidity... But it's makes me think twice about having an escape/emergency plan in cases like this! I would not have been prepared!

There's no red or any other colors on the chicks. Could you post a pic of your chicks? Just curious! Also, I think it's the husband not being too keen with colors as his wife (who I think runs the show) was not there.

I read about them, wish I did a bit more research before I bought them. If I had known they were only 3 weeks I would've just considered finding new baby chicks in colors I wanted... Time will tell about these two!

Quite helpful! I think they must be 3 weeks, I have no idea what that breeder was thinking! they also said they were blue but realized her husband got it wrong! Maybe she's got chicken math on the brain? I'm just hoping I didn't get olive eggers on accident as they breed those too on their farm.

http://nikcolyer.com/other-projects/bear-proof-chicken-coop/ Sounds like you need a safe room for the chickens, not sure if they make such a thing but I did see this post above! Thankful I live in Arvada where we just worry about the smaller prey (usually).
