I have raised pigs for a few years now. Always raised the same way and fed the same grain. This year when I rendered lard it separated or was not as firm as usual. I am very frustrated as this year I was hoping to free up freezer space and store the lard on the shelf.

Thanks, I also think it is feather plucking. I don’t see any of the other chickens bothering her though. I did take a look at her this morning and the area is back to a normal skin color. Maybe because the weather is nicer and they are out roaming more it has stopped?? I will keep an eye on it

I used strawberries I froze this past summer, thawed and drained them. I did follow the recommendation and only made half the glaze and even that was a bit much.
The kids all enjoyed it but my oldest said it would have been good without the glaze.
I only had time for a couple of bites but it was delicious! Definitely a keeper of a recipe. The real test will be when the kids get home from school. 😉

I am new to having layers but have raised meat birds for a few years. I purchased our current chicks through our local feed store but I would like to get different breeds of layers next year as well as my meat birds. Does anybody have recommendations for good hatcheries for layers and meat birds?
We partially covered the ceiling so they can’t roost in the rafters anymore. We also covered the back wall with plywood inside to stop the draft on windy nights and we changed up the roosting bars but I can’t figure out how to set up the poop board because of the location of the nesting boxes...
