I love my LF Cochins! I have a blue and one black hen, and a blue rooster. I was wondering if there are any LF barred Cochin breeders out there. I really love the color, and I am not interested in exhibiting, just for my own enjoyment! They are terrific pets! ( my girls are aptly named, "...
I too am having a look see at an old mobile home porch, if it is anything like it looks in the pictures, it will be my birds new home! Good luck with your venture, I hope to have luck with mine!
Although, the "hoop coop" my son and I proudly built last summer sure stood the test of a good ol...
I went to the Hutchinson Swap, it was the first one I have ever been to so I don't know what to expect. I was hoping to see more different types of birds there, but, there were an awful lot of pigeons, there were also some quail, peafowl, some call ducks ( not a lot), one Cayuga female ( looked...
My 10 year old son and I built one of these last summer for our 9 chickens and 2 ducks, we then banked it with straw for winter and double tarped it, it has been great even here in the frigid North, and an easy and inexpensive way to keep our poultry safe and warm. I did hang a heat lamp in the...
Just bumping this up for anyone who might be interested in checking this show out. My son and I are looking forward to showing our chickens and duck. We have shown hores for years, this might be somewhat cheaper....
Hi all,
For you folks in MNand surrounding areas, this show is October 24-26, right here in good ol Hutchinson!!!
This is going to be our first time showing birds, so I am looking really forward to it! My son (10 yr old) is going to be showing our Pekin drake, Gary in the showmanship...
I personally think it is a terrific idea! But, I am always someone who looks at practicality versus aesthetics, I can't think of any down side to it, unless the chickens wouldn't like roosting in a metal shed... might be very noisy in a storm.
but, hey, let me know how this works out for...
We lost our first chicken yesterday. I got these chicks April 28th, and this spring, my son and I built one of those "hoop coops". It is a terrific safe coop, the problem is/was, the birds have started roosting on top of the thing instead of inside it! That is how was lost our girl. I got up...
Hey all, Saffron is doing much better today. She ate applesauce ( fed by syringe, she wouldn't eat it in a dish) last night and this morning, plus I have been able to hand feed her water ( with aspirin ) by syringe. She looks much perkier than she has, I was kind of worried about her, but...
It was unusual for Cookie our dog to go after a chicken, but, I was trying to catch Saffron ( bedtime)and I had a bad hold on her and she was flapping her wings, trying to escape me, when suddenly he grabbed for her, he was being a dog, normally he totally ignores the chickens but, the heat of...
well, Saffron our chicken is still alive, but, she isn't eating
I know she is traumatized, I just hope she pulls out of it. I was thinking last night, I could suture her neck together, ( just took my suture class 2 weeks ago, getting loads of practice!) but, I figured that would be even more...
You are correct, I should have posted this in chicken emergencies, thought I was, I am kind of shaken up, this just happened before I posted.
I have mixed the baby aspirin with a couple cups of water, but, she isn't drinking ( no surprise there I guess). I have her in the bathroom and if she...
Can someone please give me some advice? Our Dachshound attacked one of my buff orps. Her skin of her neck is torn off, exposing her ligaments and muscle, I am not sure if she will survive the night, but, is there anything I can do for her?
PLease help!
