Yaaay First time Mama! Welcome. This is THE go-to forum for all kinds of things, BTW I too have 4 Australorps, raised from brooder to coop and are now 11 weeks old!
Thanks for the post. I'm now beginning the stage to get them into the coop by attracting them there when the old hen is locked out and free-ranging. I've taken out the run-separater and theres enough space that they scurry away when the old hen comes along.
Hello! I did read your post, every word because Im in a somewhat similar situation, except I have one old hen and 4 10 week pullets separated by a temporary partial pop-open barrier. The barrier separates the run into two portions. After 7 days of partial supervised visits, the chickens and the...
Okay so they got on JUST FINE with the new chick. Looks like taking out the cockerel and replacing with the new pullet that same day, within hours helped. I also threw them a snack to keep busy after I put in the new peep in the cat panel!
Tomorrow they will move to the new extension with a...
omg this was easier than I thought! They assimilated right away without any issues. I think removing the cockerel and replacing with the new one on the same day might have worked.
Okay so Eric is being exchanged today. Instead of complicating this thread, I've posed another question here:

Feel free to weigh in!!

- Old hen occasionally free ranged and around the cat...
thank you all! yeap, ill call D2D Monday and take him back. Do you think a new pullet now would assimilate or I should just leave it at 3 and be done ..
Hello! Im a second time chicken momma and convinced that one of the the Australorps is a cockerel! Can some of you experts confirm? The chicks are about 7 weeks old and Dare2Dream will take him back if a roo, but should I get an exchange? Will a new 7-8 week pullet be accepted by the other...
