How rare is a crowing hen?

Thank you all!! I can't believe this big guy fooled me! I've owned chickens for years, but for some reason was sure he was a hen. But he is very gentle and sweet, I just hope he stays that way! I have had terrible luck with mean roos!

How rare is a crowing hen?

Thank you!! Thankfully he is very sweet, too. He's massive, wish I could get a better picture to show how big he is. I truly thought it was a girl, I kept looking for a longer tail on him, but he fooled me! LOL

How rare is a crowing hen?

How rare is it for a hen to crow? I was convinced this cochin was a pullet. Until I heard it crow yesterday!! It doesn't scream rooster to me, but I've been fooled before. Is this a hen or a roo?? I was trying to attach a video, but it won't attach. May be hard to tell from this one shot...

    Maine

Hello fellow Mainers! Everyone ready for yet another snow storm?? Ugh. Anyways, I'm up here in Caribou, ME and am thinking about setting some eggs in the incubator in another few weeks. I would like some March chicks. This is my first time incubating, and I am in need of fertile hatching...

Should I cull this poor thing? *Graphic pic*

My poor BLRW hen has severe frost bite on her feet. She is the only one who has this happening out of my 8 hens, the only thing I can think of is her feet got wet and froze. I have a lot of ventilation and clean the coop every morning. The temps are usually anywhere from -30F below zero, but...

    Is this a fertilized egg?

yay!! I was hoping he was doing his job! He is young, so was unsure if he knew what he was doing. ;) I am hatching out some barnyard mutts, roo is a blue silkie and will be hatching eggs from a BLRW and tetra tint hens.

    Is this a fertilized egg?

It may be hard to see, hard to get a good shot, but is this egg fertilized? I am planning on trying to incubate some eggs in a month or so, but want to make sure the roo is doing his job!

Speckled Sussex- will their eggs get any larger?

I had 2 speckled sussex (down to one now), and while both absolutely lovely ladies, they laid small-medium sized eggs. I was not impressed with the egg size for sure. But they sure are pretty and personable chickens!

23 Week Old Pullets not Laying

With my younger girls, I have 2 that are 36+ weeks and still haven't laid a single egg yet (my EE and my BLRW). I have 2 that laid a few eggs, but haven't in months due to shorter days I believe, and 2 that are still laying thank goodness!

What is going on with my poor girls feet?

Ugh, poor girl!! I use the 2x4 with wide side up so they can lay on their feet to keep them warm. It breaks my heart that she is having this happen, can't imagine how painful that is! Should I soak them in epsom salt or is that just going to make it worse?

What is your friendliest Chicken? What breed is it?

Thank you!! I think she is a beautiful girl as well! And with a great personality, she is just a gem. :) My son actually named her, I think he heard the name in a book. I thought it was adorable, so it stuck. :)

What is going on with my poor girls feet?

My BLRW has been refusing to come out of the coop for the past week. She will go down to eat and drink, and then goes right back up to roost. I figured she just wasn't a fan of the cold/snow, and just felt happier in the coop. I finally went to really check her out after calling the girls into...

What is your friendliest Chicken? What breed is it?

My blue ameraucana, Granny Weatherwax, is the sweetest chicken in my flock. Very gentle and calm, loves to be pet, follows me everywhere. And lays me the prettiest blue eggs! My barred rock is also very personable. My least friendly and most standoffish is my barnevelder. She is...

What is this in the egg?

She is about 10 months old, and it's not every egg. I have seen 2 eggs of hers like this, but others are fine. I will look up lash, is it anything to worry about?

What is this in the egg?

My girls are only giving me 1-2 eggs a day, and by the time I get home from work they are frozen solid and cracked open, so no eggs for me from my own flock. But I have been getting eggs from my mom who also owns chickens. Opened an egg to find this inside? Any idea what it is? And the albumen...
