Silly question here...do ducks ever sleep standing up? I know geese and chickens lay down and put their heads behind their back, but when a duck just stands there and kind of tucks his head down and doesn't move for a while is he sleeping? Haha
I'll look out the window at night and see her and...
I don't know. It was given to me today. From the looks of her maybe several months. She looks full grown. Looks about the size of our male pekin.
So glad that it's probably a female! Is it still breeding season for ducks?
Couldn't find them on the pond the other day. Hopefully they just moved to the other one. I'll have to go look a little harder next time I'm off work. Really hope nothing got them but I couldn't find any feathers or anything around the pond so I don't think a fox or a cat got them. They could...
That's a great idea. I might have to get some eggs now. I really need some females though. I think I lost my last two ganders. So I guess I need both now.
That makes sense. Or a duck hen would be more similar. I just want some goslings that are better suited to defend themselves and have more smarts that's only other birds can teach each other.
Back on the subject of a gander raising abandoned goslings, would a willing chicken hen ever take to raising goslings? Just curious to see if anyone has ever had any experience in this
So your adult goose has taken a liking to the goslings? That's good to hear. I've always wondered if they would get along just in case something ever happened to mine and I needed to mix younger geese with older ones. Keep us updated!
This is a little off topic but how many different breeds of geese can actually breed with each other? I know white and brown can cross but could an Embden and a white chinese cross?
Not the goose expert as MissLydia is but I work with animals and anytime something dies or has a disease or anything of the likes, we always bleach out the cage, bowls, etc anything that could've come in contact with the chicken.
