    HELP EGG STUCK!!!

Basically just looked and pushed around while I held the hen. This has happened several times with this particular hen and we found that putting her in the bathtub filled with warm water just over her vent is also very helpful. Good luck, having a stuck egg is very frightening!

Nest boxes that hens can't eat eggs?

I am looking for plans or ideas for making nest boxes that once the hens lay, the eggs are out of reach! I have 11 hens and unless I am home, which is only weekends, I don't get any eggs because they have eaten them by the time I get off work! I figure if I can make nest boxes that separates...

Broody hen with 2 week old chicks?

I have a hen who is broody, she's not even laying her own eggs, but when the other hens lay eggs, she immediately sits on them until I come to get them. This actually worked very well during the winter, I never worried about eggs freezing! I have decided to add some new chicks to my flock due...

    Where are all my eggs?

I have 8 hens that will be 2 years old this Memorial Day. There are 2 of each, Ameracauna, Light Brahma, Dominique, and Cuckoo Maran. My egg laying went down dramatically during the winter and when I became short of eggs, I put a light in their coop on a timer and poof, they started producing...

    oozing egg from vent

Not a great topic for this early in the morning but I have an almost 2 year old Cuckoo Maran hen that as far as I can tell hasn't laid an egg in at least 6 months. All she ever does is oozes egg from her vent. It's always a slow and messy process. Now, with the cold weather, she had a clump...

    Hens not laying

I feed them Purina Layena so I thought they were getting adequate protein. I know the shorter days do play into egg production and last winter my egg count was low, but I'm not getting any eggs at all from 8 hens. The molting is over and they are nice and fluffy and have been fluffy since...

    Hens not laying

My chickens, 1 1/2 years old, starting molting in July. We are now 5 months from that and I still have no eggs! I have added calcium to their food, I give them yogurt too, they have a large enough coop, and have access to an outdoor run in addition to when I am home from work they can come out...

    Broody question

I have a broody hen that I decided to let do her thing since I got rid of my rooster and the eggs were the last of the fertilized eggs. I separated her from the coop, went on vacation and left her in good hands, came home and noticed she had egg yolk on her head. I lifted her up and 3 of the...

    broody hen and egg questions

I have a light brahma hen that went broody. She was originally sitting on ceramic eggs that were in the nest to remind the hens where to lay (they STILL lay wherever they please) so I removed those but she kept sitting. The other hens all jump on top of her to lay their eggs even though there...

    Reintroducing hens to the flock

I have two coops, one general coop, and one small hospital coop that I put hens into when they are sick. I had an EE who was eggbound, unstuck 2 eggs but left her in the hospital while she regained her strength and I could assure that she was ok. She's been hospitalized about 6 weeks now and...

    HELP EGG STUCK!!!

Not sure how I would stick vaseline in the membrane, I can't see an opening. Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying?

    HELP EGG STUCK!!!

My hen who has been having trouble laying eggs now has an egg that is "stuck" but it's not stuck inside, it's outside but it is encased in membrane. Can I cut that membrane to unleash the egg? I'm all alone here and don't know if that is something I can do by myself. Trying to round up help...

    Egg stuck

I got home from work and hubby and daughter already had the egg out. They put her in a warm tub and my husband squeezed her sides gently and he could see that the egg was sideways so he turned it and then squeezed her sizes again and it came out in the tub. Whew. My daughter said she was in a...

    Egg stuck

Thanks guys. I have been franctically searching so that when I get home I can get right on this and it seems that putting her in the bath and perhaps massaging her abdomin is the best best. IDK if I have an eye dropper but will check and try the oil thing. Anyone else who has something that...
