    Backyard Brahmas!!

Ohyes. I remember when my Araucanas were getting close to laying - I thought there was a goose in the yard!

    Backyard Brahmas!!

My Brahmas matured really late - I think they started laying around 10-11 months old. However I have a Brahma currently raising her third spring brood, so she must be four years old. I fully expect her to start laying again once these chicks have matured. These heritage breeds are very different...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Yes :) I was asking whether there's an age at which I should break her in a broody cage rather than let her sit for 3-4 weeks (it can take a little time to source/obtain fertile eggs for us). If it's fine and risk-free to let her sit/mother at any age, then great.

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Just posting a pic of my broody Pretty Girl. Third time brooding and she's in the zone. She's so gentle (never pecks me when I candle the eggs etc), and a great mum. I'm as always impressed by the pancaking - she turns into quite the puddle, and is covering a dozen big Plymouth Rock eggs...

Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

You're right, it doesn't work that way. Shingles is reactivation from old virus in your own body - you don't catch shingles anew.

To be rather clearer (I hope): the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) appears in two forms. A person's initial infection with VZV is called chickenpox, and it causes lesions all over the body (from tens to many hundreds). It may or may not stay dormant in spinal nerve roots and reactivate later in...

Quote: I'm looking for Plymouth Rocks, Speckled Sussex and possible Dorkings. My current leads have Rocks and buff/light Sussex which is ok with me.

Yes, I'm a member there too :) It's very slow in terms of Perth/WA activity in the sale section as you can see; I don't think many chook people around here use it. Prime breeding season and the last ad was three weeks ago and it's very quiet in general. Thanks

Thanks, I'm looking for pretty specific breeds - was more after finding out if there's a specific place people are going to buy/sell fertile eggs now that Chooknet is gone. Thanks all

thanks - I've ended up back at gumtree and have two good leads. Our girl's already sitting so it needs to be this weekend, don't want her sitting for too long and losing condition. I looked up Gone Clucky and they're at Bridgetown - not really in the Perth region!

Thanks but Comp's doesn't do fertile eggs, haven't for a long time.

Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi all... can anyone recommend a place to look for fertile eggs in the Perth region, apart from gumtree? My broody girl is well and truly on the brood so am looking for something this weekend, but it seems a bit of a struggle to find places that are actually selling (I'm looking for fairly...
