Day 15 and I'm so hesitant to candle. Been slacking on turning, nothing awful but bare minimum 2-3 times a day. The longer I don't candle the longer they still have a chance to be alive :(
Started my 2nd batch yesterday with 9 eggs, added 1 egg today and hope to add 2-3 more tomorrow.
Last batch was 3 eggs with 2 live birds. Hoping we have similar results this!
So we have one girl, one boy, and our last chick is a girl. I think she hatched a touch too early as she has a graphic sized amount of yolk left. She's pushed herself out of the egg and is resting. What can I do so she doesn't rupture it?
We had the first egg to internally and externally pip hatch last night at 7. No progress from the egg that had pipped yesterday at 9am this morning so I decided to assist when I noticed the exposed membrane was dried out. Broke off the top piece and saw it was breathing and moving, hit a vein...
Cochins can have issues with breeding even amongst their own. Try trimming the feathers around the Silkie/Cochin mixes' vents to help :) I had a light Brahma roo, he was the best rooster before I got Bielefelders!
This is incorrect.
I have a standard roo, a Bielefelder, who successfully breeds with my Belgian D'Anver. I've seen him do it and checked the eggs fertility.
A wild evening for sure...
Got our first external pip at about 10pm, then I noticed humidity dipping. Watched it get to 64 from 70 and getting nervous I barely opened the incubator and dumped water along the inside wall so it was open as little as possible. Watched it stay at 64 and went to...
Anxiety is in full force... Day 20 starts in 2 hours and I'm so stressed that I haven't seen any pips which I know is silly.
Could I check to see if theyve internally pipped? Just to ease my anxiety :'(
We're in lockdown! 99-100 and 65-70%.
Now to not go insane watching them.
Other good news, we officially have 3 layers so once the new one gets settled we'll be able to fill the incubator
Join Bielefelder Standard Bred group on Facebook. You'll find plenty of purebred Bielefelder breeders that can help later on as well.
I plan on selling Bielefelder hatching eggs :) Just getting my feet wet with incubating first.

This is Dolly, a 9 month old Bielefelder pullet.
She is in a breeder flock with her sister's, Molly and Polly, and their rooster, Graves.
The first time I saw Bielefelder's I fell in love. I knew I had to have them. As luck would have it, I had a Bielefelder in driving distance. I bought the...
Day 16, suddenly it feels so real. 2 days until lockdown. 5 days until hatch. Like... What?!
All 3 eggs have great movement, air cells, and veining. It's getting so difficult to see inside the eggs but that doesn't stop me from trying!
Got chick feed, new waterer and a big trough feeder for...
When it comes to deciding when to end a life, I prefer to be a bit more than reasonably sure. Especially if my entire tagline insinuates this is a more humane option, gotta have proof that they aren't actually being harmed.
