Well I was a day off... At 11:15 am weighing in at 6lbs 2 oz the biggest barred girl has laid her first egg. I was feeding them and all the sudden I heard a loud screach and lots of clucking from her and all the other chickens and there was laying this small egg.
I don't know where you could find your breeds you want up in Kingman, but there's a lot of us in the Phoenix area that may have them. And it may be cheaper than shipping them in. I myself do not yet but eventually will have a breeding stock of something. BTW welcome to BYC. Im sort of new myself.
I'm not far from casa grande myself, San tan valley/ Florence border. I might have to take the kids over and check them out myself.
I did just clean all the feathers out of their cage, and in a couple of hours later it doesn't look like I did anything this morning.
I will check for mites, they've been shedding feathers for a couple of days after that quick cold spell we had.
There should be plenty of light it's an open coop, no roof no walls just wire.
The Easter eggers, golden sex links and the rir are 4 months and a week or two, the barred and the only new Hampshire are knocking at the door of 6 months but are molting it seems. Feathers from them are shedding like crazy. The barred roo I have lost his long tail feathers, his tail looks like...
This one is probably my favorite of the 15 chickens. Went from super ugly to one of the best looking of the bunch. And just venting a little bit still anxiously awaiting the first egg, they were due to start laying almost a month ago, grrrr.
