OK it was a 32'x24' garage that was attached to a house in a buyout program in the flood plain. House was demolished and thegarage was in real good shape and my SO said he wanted to move it to my place and I said You wanna WHAT!? There was one wall missing where it was attached to the house...
...it with a toad? Yes, the
chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.
ERNEST HEMINGWAY:
To die in the rain. Alone.
GRANDPA:
(** this is my personal favorite**)
In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and...
I just love my BLRW's! I've got breeders from Jerry & Rebecca Foley and Jesse Paul of Paul's Poultry. They are an extremely sweet breed! And beautiful! Great layers of nice large light brown eggs and they handle our harsh Minnesota winters quite well. One thing I'm learning is they have a...
OK So we need a bigger Brooder!
Thanks to all you good people on the BYC site here's what I came up with:
It is 3'x4' and 3' high 1' off the ground which as it turned out is perfect height for me to sit in my chair and watch them! Both top panels are hinged and can be latched together...
Light Sussex are one of the breeds I'm working with. I'm starting with 2 lines of these. One line came from Bill Braden - Landoftobe in OK. I'm not sure where he originally got his. I ended up with some really nice birds from this hatch. Good sized birds, good type, fairly strong black and...
Greetings!
Welcome to my BYC Page! (Finally) I like to say I am a city girl with a country heart. Grew up in Mpls, MN til I was 18, moved out and never looked back. Ended up on a 5 acre farmstead outside of Georgetown, MN with a pop of 124. Quite the change! I've been here since 1985 and...
Welcome to all the new MN chicken people! I let my birds out this morn came in and checked the temp: 4*! Brrrr they seem fine and were happy to get out. No snow on the ground here tho!....yet!
Hi Jim
Not sure how much this guy weighs. But I call him Big Sir if thats any indication. Only way to know for sure is to climb on the scale holding him but then I guess I'd have to know how much I weigh!
Fertility checked out better than I expected for my last hatch but still not 100%. I...

I say let em chat. It's how the friendships on here have been established BUT give us a tool so that those that are looking for some information specific to the breed can find it relatively easily within the 200+ pages of the thread. How difficult would it be to set up a search...
Oh oh I checked the pics on the site and the pic shown for the hen is actually my big daddy rooster pictured as a cockerel! Here is a nice pic of a hen you can use:
That greenfire rooster is her daddy and she is also a cross between the greenfire line and the canadian line. They are...
The white feathers will yellow in the full sun. If its just dirt maybe give them a dustbath area with more sand and DE in it that they will shake off. No problem with too much sun or dirt here in MN. Just clouds and snow!
I think that's a fantastic idea!! The one I went to in Mpls a year or so ago was lots of fun! I know there'd be lots of volunteers to help out, bring food etc ( myself included)
We used to have a hobby farm in Cambridge when I was a kid. Lotsa great memories from there. Had 40 acres of...
Greetings all my fellow Minnesotans! I am in AZ right now and it is my first time being south EVER!! 2 more days til its back to reality! I've gotten spoiled rotten and I must say I have a newfound admiration for all of us living through our MN winters!! We are tough!! I'll try to bring...
...straw on the snow toss em some scratch and they all go out to play! My buffs are ALWAYS the last ones to come in at night. If it's going to be 10* or below I turn on a heat lamp in each coop and haven't seen any ill effects. They survived temps of -35* last winter and I expect they'll have...
