    medicated food and eggs

My younger chicks just got put in with my older laying hens a few weeks ago. I just realized that the grower feed that i switched everyone to; so the non laying chicks won't get too much calcium from the layer feed, is medicated. Are the eggs from my laying hens safe to eat or not. Kinda...

Help what's wrong with my hen

I think my hen tried to lay her first egg. This morning when i let them out of their coop i noticed her backend was really wet. When i got home today i looked closer and she had a rubbery substance stuck to her feathers and her vent was protruding and red. I cleaned her up and pushed it back in...

When is it safe to eat the eggs?

A couple of my chickens have started laying already and they have been on the medicated developer feed. I just switched them to a layer feed but i'm wondering when it will be safe to eat the eggs? How long does it take for the medicated feed to not be in their system anymore. I tried searching...

    Chick attacked by dogs!

Iv'e read numerous times on here not to use the neosporin with the pain killing agent, it's apparently toxic to chickens. Just use Neosporinw without the pain killing agent.

    Please help...I ordered pullets...

Your getting baby chicks that have like a 90% chance of being hens. Out of the 14 i got (not from cackle but from a local store) they were all sexed from the supplier and suppose to be pullets. I believe 2 of them are roosters. But i think that is pretty good odds.

Can you put Chicks and baby bunnies together?

I know of people who did and it seemed to work just fine. But i would get a girl rabbit or if you get a boy make sure to get it castrated cause the intact boy rabbits will hump the chickens.

    Squishy Crop

I just got 3 EE chicks that are 2 weeks old. I got them yesterday late afternoon. When they were getting them out of their bin at the feed store they were very flighty and hard to catch. When we got home they seemed really stressed and scared. They kinda just laid in a heap. I checked on them...

    Information about neutering a rooster

I am new to having chickens. I just got 11 of them and i think a couple may be roosters. I am interested in possibly having the alleged roosters neutered (or whatever it's called). Has anyone had this done? How safe is it? How painful is it to the bird? And is there any painkillers you can give...

    Favorite

Out of all my different breeds (buff orpington, delaware, SLW,GLW, and speckled sussex) the buff orpington and the speckled sussex are the friendliest. The wyndotte's are the most flighty so far. Iv'e had them since chicks and they range from 2-4 weeks old. Even as little chicks iv'e noticed the...

My chickens don't seem to live long?

So after reading this post and the replies; i have a question regarding feeding chickens and making sure they have all the proper nutrients in the right amounts. If you feed your chickens a feed formulated for their age and lifestyle shouldn't that about cover it? I'm asking just because when...

My Craigslist chickens have a cold

Well i'm no expert iv'e had chickens for a grand total of 3 weeks. Maybe try putting some probiotics in their water. I put the safe-a-chick kind in my water when they have runny poo and it seems to help. Also make sure there's enough ventilation in their box. How old are they? They recommend...
