How to free range without fences or electrical wire UPDATED WITH PICS

Yes, once chickens know where their bed down place is, it is hard to get them to change. I get them to stay close to home with a deer feeder with an added repeating timer and electric eye for day time only use. A couple seconds on then off for an hour. They stay close in order to get their share...

The Awesome Meyer deal... not much variety.. what did you get?

Hello, I just got my rainbow pack of 50 pullets this last Wednesday. They were well mixed, only one died. But let me tell you a funny story. I had seen the video that was posted of the interior of their hatchery and saw they may organize their sorting tables by the types of chicks. I wanted...

McMurray's New Shipping Practices...has anyone heard about this?

My experience is Mc Murry does have a delivery problem. First delivery chicks were weak and most of those not DOA died soon after. Their RE-SHIPMENT was the same. Out of 52 not one chick made it past two weeks, although 10 or 12 deaths was probably my fault. I had had a similar problem with an...

Phoned my pullet assortment order in this morning, they ship this afternoon, and I expect them Wednesday. Pulled a little trick, I'll see if it works. Ordered 50 and shipping allows 51 so I added one male white rock to the order. Why? Well, I would prefer the more popular egg laying breeds and I...

Meyers: Positives and Negitives--what's your experience?

Hello, Out of my June Meyers shipment I must guess at what they are. Have about 6 that look like New Hampshire Reds, however, they could be Buff Comets or Buff Chen...(can't spell the name... from Canada). Have 4 or 5 that could be Black Austrop or Black Giant Jeresy. Two black chicks may be...

    Sentimental About your Roos?

Hello, If you are just protecting backs of your hens, I'd trim the spurs of your roosters. I have one big 'ole Buff Orpington that had some very pointed spurs that was damaging my hens backs. I trimmed back into the quick intentionally so when the spurs grow out they will be blunt. The rooster...

Meyers: Positives and Negitives--what's your experience?

    Cackle vs McMurray vs Ideal

I really don't want to run down any hatchery, there is something about the mail route that Mac Murry uses that imperils their shipments. My experience one shipment weak chicks, one shipment of very weak chicks, and one RE- shipment of very weak chicks. I love their catalog (that is what drawed...
