nothing to watch here i guess...anyone have ideas? i searched other threads with similar topic....but all i found was white worm looking things. maybe i'll take a picture and repost tomorrow.
thanks
I noticed some long slimy red worm looking things in some chicken poop. There doesn't seem to be the circular muscle definitions on the worms like earthworms, just long slimey things tha don't seem to be moving.
The birds are free run.
Should I be treating this or can I process with no worries...
Thanks for all the support. The date is set and the plan is coming togethor for next Saturday. I've got two traffic cones (for killing cones) and a propane corn pot for scalding, big tables, aprons, rubber gloves, 150litre bins for chilling, knives, ...and of course the beer.
After watching...
It's my first time with meaties, but probably not my last. My only regret is not booking in at the processor earlier. My 20 birds (cornish X) are 7 weeks and huge...I couldn't get them a date at the gov't inspected processor until Nov. 12. They might not live that long, I understand, and I...
I know they are ready......but I don't process myself and cant get them in until the end of October.. Canadian Thanksgiving is this weekend and the processor is incredibly busy to get everyone's turkey and chickens done for the holiday. At $2 a bird with a government inspection tag, I can't...
i have 20 cornishx birds at about 6 weeks old. i weighed a big one today and he was just over 7lbs. i'm impressed.
my concern is that they may eat me out of house and home before they go to slaughter. i feed them twice daily and a 50pound bag of 18% multi fowl lasts about a week. i also...
i've used a large dog crate for some huge turkeys...
you could also use-
a box
a rubbermaid bin
a rabbit cage
cat carrier
whatever you have that will keep them contained
my 20 cornishx are now almost 6 weeks and are feathered for the most part , but some seem to be alittle bare under the wings and on the breast.
I removed the light last week, and since then we have had a real cold and wet snap. tonights temp is around freezing and it's 48 in the coop. The...
...growing incredibly fast. Sleeping with the lights on isn't a problem ans there have been no predator problems. I've noticed the temp as low as 58*F in the coop at night ( we are in Canada too) and they aren't piling onto eachother for warmth, so I assume they are happy.
And also I can see...
My 5 year old son is taking some cornishx to his school fair next week. He can't wait to show off his hobby to the rest of the (mostly city) kids.
It makes me beam ear to ear to see him so interested.
Congratulations to your son and daughter!
I got day old cornishX chicks a couple days ago. I'm keeping them in a brooder made of a 150 litre rubbermaid bin with a wire lid. To this I have attached a lamp with a 100watt bulb to raise the temp a bit, which I have kept on constantly. I am wondering if I should give them a break from the...
I think she would be tasty enough by now.
We raised 4 BBW turkeys last year....got them as day olds in July and processed late in the fall.
check them out here if you like...
thanks for watching.
We have had a succesful couple of years raising layers and turkeys in our backyard and are now getting 20 cornishX on August 25.
I plan on raising them in a tractor on grass, but am wondering if and when they will be interested in food other than grains?
I have access to lots of bread and veggie...
I bought bird netting to enclose my run and coop area today (about 25'x25'). I've let my birds have the run of my property in the past, and we have had a fairly peaceful arrangemrnt, but i'm fed up with it now...the poop on the back porch, the eating of flowers, digging up my gardens, the...
To the dissapointment of some Waterloo residents, city council voted against residents keeping backyard chickens at their meeting last night. The issue was raised back in August 2008 when the 'Waterloo Hen Association' approached council with a bylaw proposal in favour of the hens. Until then...
