Well I made some housing changes last night, and a group of hens did not get into the coop last night. The bobcat took one and left one dead. I'd have no luck with chickens this year if it was not for bad luck
I have stopped correcting people or telling them their coop is too small and has no meaningful ventilation. People do not want to hear they are wrong and I am tired of telling them!
For some reason this thread dropped from my alerts, I guess I am too infrequent around here..
So I had to bring my little rat terrior to the vet yesterday for his final appointment, I held him as he let out his last breath then cried like a baby in my truck afterwords.
I was so mad at the...
So my hatch is hatching:). 3 so far I will post pics once they are all hatched and fluffed up. They are just in time for my MIL's birthday tomorrow she will be 101. She lives with us I am teasing her and telling her that we are giving out the chicks as party favors:)
So since I only ended up with two pullets from my last hatch, and the 6 boys are gone now Obviously this means I have room for more! The guy who took the boys breeds chickens and he gave me 21 eggs to incubate:) They are a mix of different breeds, no mutts but unsure exactly what I will be...
So I gave away the 6 cockerels last night, I put a craigslist ad up and they were gone in a few hours. I askd the guy was he going to eat them and he said no, he was going to breed them. Lucky boys! So Now I have a new chicken buddy and he is gathering me True Blue Whiting eggs to hatch, now...
yes too late, however I did hatch out some lavender orps and now how 6 boys to deal with, well at least I got 2 pullets from that hatch..
So the math is saying I can get more chicks! On the lookout for some sort of auto sexing breed...
Good news bad news...
Good news is I will most likely get more chicks next spring
Bad news is I am 90% sure 6 of the 8 lavender orps I hatched are boys
So the lavender orphingtons I hatched are getting bigger, trying t sort out who's who. So far 3, probably 4 of the 8 are boys , but only 2 are for sure are girls..... So I am not sure yet... I was hoping for 4-5 hens but I am doubtful. We shall see
